Independent MP Helen Haines’ condition has been downgraded from critical to serious but stable, though she remains in a medically induced coma.

It is the first time she has come off the critical list since being flown to the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne on Monday evening.

Haines was allegedly intentionally struck by a car outside her Wangaratta office five days ago and has since had both legs amputated.
