There's another divide that is helping determine which Indian American Democrats get re-elected - whether or not they have Hindutva support.
Krishnamoorthi, Thanedar, Rajkumar, and Israni all ran as stars of the Hindu nationalist movement. They all lost.
Story of 2 Indian American Democrats. Shri Thanedar moved from anti-Israel to pro-Israel. Ro Khanna changed from taking AIPAC money to rejecting it entirely. Thanedar lost his primary today, Khanna is now seen as one of the most prominent voices in his party.
I appreciate AIPAC proving it doesn’t belong in the Dem Party and especially our primaries.
From endorsing Jan 6th members to ensuring Congress remains in the hands of a 34-count felon, AIPAC is an org committed to undermining democracy at home and abroad.
See you in November.
🤜🏽💥Shri Thanedar defeated!
🤜🏽💥Raja Krishnamoorthi defeated!
🤜🏽💥Rakhi Israni defeated!
🤜🏽💥Jennifer Rajkumar defeated!
Huge respect to all the South Asian American activists that are on an epic run right now exposing and defeating the corrupt corporate Democrats putting India's right wing Hindutva religious nationalism agenda over American interests. It's not easy challenging politicians from your own community but it needs to be done.
Thank you @Hindus4HR and the rest of the crew!
It's clear today, as always, that the Hindutva movement does not represent Hindu Americans. And now, there is a political voice for the majority that rejects Hindu majoritarianism: Hindus for Human Rights Action.
Progressive Hindu Americans are building a movement. For too long, far-right groups have monopolized the Hindu American political identity in US politics. But that changes now.
In the past, we've held Thanedar to account for taking on Hindu nationalist positions and carrying out policies that were proposed by Hindu nationalist-aligned groups, often at the cost of Hindu Americans.
@DonavanMI13 Detroiters will finally get a Member of Congress who will fight for them rather than the far right and corporate interests. The future looks bright with friends like Donavan in Congress!
Congratulations to @RanjeevPuri on officially becoming the Democratic nominee for Michigan State House District 24! Representative Puri has been a thoughtful, results-driven leader for his community, and we're proud to support his reelection campaign as he advances to the November general election.
@AbdulElSayed Abdul has fought for Michiganders to live free, dignified lives and to make sure that US dollars are spent to make people's lives better, not entrench autocracy around the world.
