On August 12, she fought her last battle near Hrekivka in the Luhansk region. She was only 19 years old.

Yuliia Boianovska served with Ukraine’s 3rd Assault Brigade. She was constantly sent where the fighting was hardest — infantry positions, assaults, the front line. Her combat path took her to some of the hottest sectors around Avdiivka and across the Donetsk and Luhansk fronts.

But there was one person Yuliia tried to protect from the reality of that war: her mother. She rarely told her how dangerous things really were. Instead, she said her brigade was somewhere safely behind the front near Kharkiv. She protected her mother's heart in the only way she could.

On Sunday evening, they spoke for the last time. Yuliia said they were heading to positions for at least five days. Her mother asked the question she always asked: “Are you okay?” Yuliia answered as she always did: “Everything is great.” Only this time, her mother could hear exhaustion in her voice.

On Tuesday morning, the family received the news no parent should ever receive. Yuliia had been killed in battle — with a weapon in her hands, carrying out her duty.

Her mother will never hug her again. Her father will never see his daughter walk through the door. Her younger brother will never welcome his sister home.

She was 19.

At an age when most young people are choosing universities, careers, falling in love and planning decades ahead, Yuliia was defending her country on the front line.

War takes the young. It takes the brave. Sometimes it takes the very people a country can least afford to lose.

But there is one thing we can still give them: memory.

Heroes die once on the battlefield. They should never be allowed to die a second time because their names were forgotten.

Remember her name: Yuliia Boianovska. Forever 19. 🇺🇦

Today, many were shocked by yet another video of the drone “safari” Russians are carrying out against civilians in Kherson. A Russian drone deliberately hunted down a man selling vegetables and detonated right next to him. The Russians even admitted to the crime, showing zero regret and openly boasting about tormenting people. The man was wounded in the blast. Every single day, ordinary people in Kherson face these Russian "safaris."

The world must see this. It must see every piece of evidence that Russia has gone mad and that its soldiers take pleasure in killing and abusing civilians. Without pressure on Russia, the dismantling of its capacity for aggression, and real security guarantees, it is simply impossible to imagine the world being able to coexist with this evil. We must remain resolute in defending life. We must act and support life in ways that force Russia to seriously think about peace rather than expanding the range of its drones.

This is not just about Ukraine. Russia’s campaign against human life must be stopped here in Ukraine before it spreads further. Finland and Kazakhstan, the Baltic states and Poland, the countries of the South Caucasus, Romania, and Moldova—all should work together to ensure real security guarantees and bring Russia’s war to an end. Peace is needed, which requires cooperation among everyone in the world who truly values peace. Thank you to everyone standing with Ukraine!

Today I join others from across our game and call for Gianni Infantino to resign as FIFA President.

Infantino has debased the office that he promised to elevate. He has lied, deceived and tried to feather his own nest at the expense of the game he is supposed to serve. 

He has lost the support of his senior staff, his closest advisers, the vast majority of people who devote their lives to this sport and even, it would seem, the FIFA Peace Prize winner. 

It is too late to save his dignity but it is not too late to save football. He should go. Now.

This alleged "residence strike" story is a complete fabrication intended to justify additional attacks against Ukraine, including Kyiv, as well as Russia’s own refusal to take necessary steps to end the war.
