@csd9bronx Superintendent said it all! "Sports ARE academics. We engage the mind, we engage the body, we engage teamwork, we engage social-emotional learning."

I was an opener at a gym and the only employee in the building from 5:30am-9am 5 days a week.
The manager position directly above me opened up. I applied, and got it.
After 2 weeks of working this position I was introduced to the manager they hired for this role. Then they said I was too valuable as the opener and it's easier to fill the manager role than the former.
The 80 hours I worked as manager were paid at $8.75 per hour instead of the $12 I was promised and the next Monday I was scheduled back for opening and only 27.5 hours.
So needless to say I quit. I never missed a day. Did my job so well I was invaluable and they STILL rugpulled me.
Hard work is punished in the US.
@MrBiehlsPE This is such an important concept to grasp. Even within so many team oriented environments, the “individual” is still emphasized, highlighted, and celebrated. There is so much merit in truly embracing what a team is absent of contributions isolated to individuals.
Problems that don't exist:
(1) children who don't want to learn
(2) a culture or mindset of poverty
(3) communities that don't value education
(4) educational disparities caused by an entire group's shortage of "grit."
Let's not use energy fixing problems that don't exist.
@Fightful Great that this teacher has created an inclusive space for kids who love pro wrestling! This would have been my dream come true. Cudos to the administrators in the building who also allow this to happen! Amazing!
@wallflowerperry Just heard of the amazing news about @CodyRhodes getting your kids to Wrestlemania. I also just heard about your wrestling club at school. What an amazing thing. I’d love to send you a PDF version of a pro wrestling themed poetry novel written in poetry verse.
Finished with my first semester in an educational leadership program. Definitely opening up my eyes to ideal school efficiency, especially through the lens and perspectives of a #physed teacher who sees the entire school. It’s been an interesting experience thus far!
@CoachGelardi Line ‘‘em up on time and when they ask what’s taking so long, tell them their teacher just be running late. Then the kids will say something when they get there! 😜
IMO, there’s a big misconception regarding “behavior management” in school. What is thought to be “behavior management” is often equated with “behavior control.” Behavior management is about building relationships. Behavior control is about projecting an often unrealistic ideal.
Parents of young athletes:
You're being sold a bill of goods…
Early specialization…
It's a fear campaign…
Its a billion dollar dumpster fire saying:
To become a great athlete you must:
Specialize early…
Train year-round…
Compete often…
If you don’t your child is going to miss out and fall behind
And for the most part:
It’s complete bullshit…
What it really is:
Early Development of sport-specific skills
Early success in sport
Little to no development of fundamental movement skills
Poor performances later in the sport
Higher chance of injury
Higher Chance of Burnout from Sport
Early start…Early finish!
It's a complete lack of understanding of how humans develop…
During the first 14 years of Life:
Be a human first:
Do plenty of activities that involve:
Rolling
Crawling
Climbing
Reaching
Bending
Rotating
Standing (1 foot)
Changing levels:
Be an athlete second:
Sprint
Jump
Hop
Climb
Wrestle
swim/bike/ski
catch/kick/throw/trap Etc
Sprinkle in lots of activities and multiple sports!
I can't guarantee a Div 1 scholarship but I can say that kids will be more Coordinated, stronger, more flexible, cardiovascularly fit, more resistant to fatigue and injury, and also be calmer, less stressed, leaner, and able to learn new skills. Skills like complex sports specific skills.
