There are only three episodes, and I can already say this: for me, PLS Love is far superior to the novel — especially when it comes to character development.

Pan in the novel was extremely shallow. She accepted everything, was fragile, and even when going through difficult situations, she rarely had a voice or a reaction. She felt lifeless. In the adaptation, she gained personality, strength, and context. She supports her family, works as an escort, protects her clients’ privacy, and carries the weight of judgment from society and her own family. She pays off debts to save her mother and still has to deal with the consequences left behind by her father. She is a hardworking woman who takes on enormous responsibilities and, because of that, stops being just a label and becomes a person.

Something even more interesting happens with Pheem when we stop seeing her simply as an aggressive character. Aggression is only one layer. There is a woman full of conflicts, contradictions, and insecurities underneath it.

In the novel, her father felt almost utopian to me: a powerful businessman who practically accepted everything when it came to his daughter. In the adaptation, their relationship feels much more realistic. He raised Pheem as his precious little girl, and she became a successful businesswoman, but she still seeks his approval. And we are talking about a man who carries an entire history of judgment and conflict surrounding Pheem’s mother. It makes much more sense that he would not easily accept his daughter becoming involved with a woman whom society marginalizes.

That conflict is where Pheem’s complexity comes from. She is powerful, provocative, and confident, but she also carries the need to live up to her father’s expectations. When Pan enters the equation, she has to choose between what she was taught she should be and what she truly feels.

And that is where PLS Love separates itself from the novel. The series does not simply build a romance; it builds two women with their own histories, wounds, desires, and conflicts. In only three episodes, Pan and Pheem already feel like they have an entire lifetime behind them.

For me, that is the greatest strength of the adaptation: it did not simply reproduce the story. It gave the characters humanity.

Pan feels like she exists. Pheem feels like she exists. And when an adaptation manages to transform characters from the page into people who feel real, it stops being just an adaptation and becomes its own work.

That is why, for me, PLS Love did not simply adapt the novel. It deepened it, expanded it, and made this story feel much more alive.

also the editing in ep3 was genuinely so much better than ep2. scenes fit together perfectly and the transitions were smooth and clean nothing felt abrupt or choppy at all.. hoping
this quality stays consistent going forward
