Vagrant Darter
This species takes its English name from its habit of appearing as a rare vagrant north of its normal range. Another name is Moustached darter/Sympetrum vulgatum.

I found this empty pupa attached to a tomato plant in the garden. It looks very much like the chrysalis of the Small Tortoiseshell butterfly (Aglais urticae), though I would welcome any expert confirmation or alternative suggestions. The pupa was completely hollow, which strongly suggests it was parasitized. Instead of a butterfly emerging, something else likely developed inside and exited — a common occurrence in nature where parasitic wasps or flies target lepidopteran pupae. I photographed it from three different sides because I couldn’t decide on the best angle, and I also couldn’t choose between a black or white background. That is why there are six pictures here to see.
