FAFO: Homelab Edition #1
today was an exciting day because I was finally going to start my homelab journey. I got myself a basic mini pc, an hp prodesk 600 g4 mini with an i5-8500t, 16gb ram, 500gb ssd, win11 pro, wifi, along with a sabrent usb 3.0 sata docking station, an ethernet cable, and a 4tb seagate ironwolf hard drive for storage.
the first thing I did after reaching home was make a bootable drive for proxmox. for some reason, that took way longer than expected, but I still had everything else set up and ready.
then came the part where I needed to connect the pc to a monitor so I could actually install proxmox. in all the excitement, I had never checked the video output ports on the mini pc.
that is when I realized it only had displayport and an old school vga port.
my monitor only has hdmi.
I looked around, tried to find a cable or adapter, checked whatever I had at home, but no luck. after all that excitement, I had to give up for the day and order a new cable.
so yeah, not the big proxmox install day I imagined, but still a small step forward.
day 1 progress: bootable usb made, hardware ready, cable ordered.
also, this was the exact moment I realized the USA really needs blinkit.

i havenโt been this excited to build something in a long time. today, iโm building a server, and it honestly feels like being a kid with a new toy.
iโm starting my homelabbing journey and iโll keep posting as i make progress.
@ThedatagGuy@Sushhii25 thank you for sponsoring my studies and giving me a โน50 lakh loan. i wouldn't be where i am today without you. everything i've achieved is thanks to your support
@Your_PARAM I mean there is everything, but most of the college folks are way into fitness. Itโs not the air, I feel its dedication towards being healthy.
@Your_PARAM Soo the thing here is that every building and house is centrally air conditioned because of the same reason you don't feel like going outside. On top of that heat is different than what we have in india. Here is more dry heat, so you feel more heat than usual.
@Your_PARAM Nah dude, people here are more habituated than anyone else. I have seen my indian friends going with umbrella in this heat, but those guys completely in shorts and enjoying the summer. Even crazy I have seen people run shirtless in peak heat at noon
@Your_PARAM California is indeed on the coast and forest fire are quite common there, yes. Well I donโt know if heat contributes to that factor or not. Could be human ignition or dry leaves as well.
