Matt Damon sat down with Jimmy Fallon looking like a man who just realized time is a thief.
Fallon asks the usual: “How are the kids?”
Matt smiles. Everybody’s great. Then he drops it.
“We have one going to college this year.”
Fallon leans back. “It’s happening.”
Matt nods. Kids grow up so fast. It’s kinda crazy.
Then he tells the story.
Years ago he’s on a job, holding his then one-year-old in his arms. His old friend — retired now, from Long Island — looks at him and says it like a warning:
“Don’t blink, Matt Damon.”
Matt laughs telling it now. At the time they weren’t even sleeping through the night. He was thinking, “What is he talking about?”
Now that baby is packing for college.
Matt looks at Fallon and just says it:
“Yeah. And I blinked.”
Fallon covers his face.
That’s the whole clip. No movie pitch. No punchline. Just a dad who thought he had all the time in the world… and then he didn’t.
Don’t blink.
