I think Laura Ingraham and Dr. Marc Siegel oppose cannabis legalization for a combination of political, ideological, and public health reasons.

Ingraham tends to approach cannabis from a law-and-order perspective, focusing on addiction, crime, and the potential social consequences of legalization. Siegel approaches it more from a medical standpoint, particularly concerns about high-potency THC, mental health, and addiction.

But I think there's an important distinction they're overlooking. Legalization doesn't mean cannabis is harmless, and acknowledging its risks doesn't automatically justify prohibition.

Alcohol and tobacco have well-documented health risks, yet we regulate them. Cannabis should be part of that same conversation.

Personally, I think much of their opposition comes down to focusing on the potential dangers of cannabis without giving equal consideration to the consequences of prohibition or the benefits of a properly regulated market.

The real question shouldn't simply be whether cannabis has risks. We know it does. The question should be whether legalization and regulation provide a better way to manage those risks than criminalization.
