I'm looking forward to my second residential exploring Westerns. We'll cover 60s/70s classics, cross-cultural/generic influence, revisionist and neoWesterns via clips, and show three very different 21st century films. Higham is always a delight to stay at!
9-11 Oct: INTRO TO GARDEN HISTORY with Alley-Marie Jordan
Beginning with ancient Egypt, we will delve into the gardens of Greece & Rome, followed by Medieval & Islamic gardens, the Italian Renaissance, French baroque and ending with the pleasure gardens of 18th-century England.
6-8 Oct: THE FILM WESTERN FROM 1960 TO THE PRESENT DAY with Stephen Longstaffe.
The Western has always reinvented itself. Each era had its own cowboy, cattle baron and frontier. Using three key films and clips from many others, we will study the relevance of the Western.
