A Statement from BCIS President Prof. David Hildick-Smith:

"It has taken a long time to get here, but after hard work and strong data from @DawnAdamson6, @mmamas1973, Ashan Gunarathne, and others, NHSE England has finally agreed to prioritise STEMI transfer between sites. This is something we have been requesting for a long time, and it is great to see it implemented.

"The wording regarding interhospital patient transfer for PPCI is that 'Ambulance services are asked to ensure... that patients are prioritised for a Category 2 dispatch.'

"Our side of the bargain is to ensure that 'handovers of patients transferred... are completed within 15 minutes, releasing the ambulance to answer other emergency calls.'"

We definitely have seen better TIMI flow when patients arrive for cath. Good to see RCT data!

We discussed this observation on #CardioTwitter: several noted that administering a heparin bolus the ER (100 units/Kg, not max 4,000), rather than waiting until the cath lab, improves TIMI flow by the time the patient reaches the cath lab. This is now supported by an RCT! #TCT2024 @crfheart
