This is a core pillar of my vision for Bungoma: a fair food system that protects the vulnerable, stabilises prices, and guarantees food security for every household. We will buy maize from peasant farmers at fair market prices during harvest — families who primarily produce for food but are forced by poverty to sell to meet immediate financial needs — store it safely, and sell it back to the community at the same price — shielding our people from exploitative middlemen who profit from hunger and deepen poverty.

Our focus remains on the most vulnerable — hustler families, widows, single mothers, and households living below the poverty line.

The project aims to strengthen water and sewerage infrastructure, reduce Non-Revenue Water (NRW), optimize network performance, and improve overall service reliability.
Key components include the construction of the Thika 3A Dam, a 40-metre high earth dam incorporating a 400 kW hydropower facility; construction of a new water treatment plant with a capacity of 70,000 m³ per day alongside rehabilitation of an existing plant; expansion of over 70 kilometres of distribution pipelines and new last-mile connections; and development of water and sewerage infrastructure in Githunguri, including a new intake, boreholes, a sewage treatment plant, and an expanded sewerage network.

The engagement underscored the importance of innovative financing partnerships in accelerating delivery of critical water and sanitation infrastructure and reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to expanding access to reliable and sustainable services for communities across the country.
