Did you know that more people in the US celebrate this holiday than in Mexico? The holiday is celebrated as a way to honor Mexican culture and their victory over the French in the Battle of Puebla in 1862.
5th and 6th grade World Language students learned about Semana Santa in Guatemala this week! They learned about the Easter week processions, alfombras, food and traditions… and then colored their own “alfombras”! 💗💚💛💜🧡💙❤️

6th graders are learning about Mardi Gras and Carnaval celebrations around the world! This week was Quebec’s Winter Carnaval ❄️ and New Orleans’ Mardi Gras 💜💛💚
6th graders interviewed each other today. They asked and answered questions in French using adjectives to describe themselves. They did such a great job speaking French the whole time! 🇫🇷🥳 @HiltonCSD
6th graders at Village and Northwood created Picasso-style self portraits along with sentences in French about themselves. Fun fact: Pablo Picasso was a Spanish-born artist who spent most of his adult life in France 🇫🇷. These were so fun! @HiltonCSD
French students at Merton Williams went caroling in classrooms today! There were 2 groups, one that sang “Holy night/Douce Nuit” and another that sang “Oh Christmas tree/Mon beau Sapin”. How fun, Mrs. Nesbitt! 🎄❄️🎅🏻

There are A LOT of holidays around the world in December. 6th grade French students will be voting in a Winter Song Battle this month where they will listen to two winter or holiday themed songs everyday and vote on their favorite. Stay tuned for the winner the week before break!
