Nigerian banker Farouk Gumel has been appointed the Chairman of Botswana’s new multibillion dollar Sovereign Wealth Fund, created to diversify the economy beyond diamonds. Gumel was the immediate Chairman of Nigeria's sovereign wealth fund manger, the NSIA.

In South Africa, MTN has struck a strategic partnership with Bango to roll out subscription bundling through its Digital Vending Machine platform. The deal will give MTN’s 39 million customers seamless access to leading services while boosting retention and flexibility.

Nigeria’s NGX jumped 0.79%, marking a strong start to the week. Nairobi’s NSE gained 0.18%, while Morocco’s MASI dipped 0.56% and Zimbabwe’s ZSE slipped 0.38%. The MTN shares climbed 2.82% on the JSE today as the Rand advanced +0.15% on the USDollar at 17.36.
