Next, they will be decolonizing the English language we share, so that it’s only grunts and whistles.
We give power to the most childish, theatre kids we can find.
Just when you thought Canada couldn’t get any more ridiculous
Toronto says hold my animal spirit pictograph
To “decolonize wayfinding”
Because of course replacing the Queen Street exit sign with a turtle

Coyne's classic both-sides shuffle, perfectly executed
He mocks Pierre Poilievre (and anyone noticing reality) for daring to call two quarters of negative growth a recession — "silly ritual," "we don't turn into pumpkins," etc
Then, in the same breath, he admits: Long-run growth has been glacially slow for decades.
The Justin Trudeau Liberals "probably did more damage" than Harper.
The current Carney government has "no new ideas" to fix it
Yet somehow the party that's held power for the last decade gets the gentle "both sides" treatment and zero accountability for the mess they're currently presiding over
It's peak Coyne: scold the opposition for stating the obvious, sprinkle some faux-evenhandedness, quietly admit the governing Liberals suck at growth... then pivot back to defending the vibe
Unbelievable mental gymnastics. Is he afraid boomers won't hire him for retirement home speaking engagements? @acoyne
I started watching SG-1 at age 15. I was the first in the family to start, but one by one they all joined me. Then one day, even my Dad joined. NOTHING on television held my Dad's interest. He never went to the movies. It was the first time I'd ever connected with him in this way. Not long after he started, he came home one day with the first season DVD box set, and the whole family started watching from the beginning. He kept buying the sets, until we caught up with the currently airing show, and then we watched like clockwork as a family every Friday night, with pizza and soda.
You have to understand, that is a CRAZY thing to type out about my Dad. He never did stuff like that. He was tough to connect with about something that wasn't mechanical or construction. I can't think of a single other fun thing he did with us that wasn't what a kid would consider "chores" or "work." My siblings and I treasured those Friday nights like nothing else. It was an entirely new experience, having something like that where he would quote the lines to you in the middle of the day (Teal'c lines were his favorite, especially the infamous "undomesticated equines" line).
My Dad has been buried for almost 8 years now. My oldest two kids barely remember him and the other two never met him. We recently watched both SG-1 and Atlantis as a family. It's been an emotional ride, sharing this with them yet wishing Grandpa was around to share it with them too. My kids ADORE Stargate. My girls have crushes on Daniel Jackson and John Sheppard. My youngest son wants to BE Jack O'neill. They cried when Daniel ascended the first time. They were over the MOON at the idea of a new series in the works to enjoy. I haven't had the heart to tell them the news that the whole thing has been called off.
Save Stargate!
Nearly 50,000 views, which is a key number to start getting notice. Would be nice to get this to 100,000 plus. Amazon has been known to take these into consideration!
STARGATE ✨ it will be rescued. I assure you all. I feel it in my bones.
It’s not too late guys. Cmon. Get posting your Stargate posts. Show them what goodwill got them!

Stargate SG-1 creator Brad Wright has chimed in on the new Stargate cancellation:
"Martin and his team were doing amazing work and I wish the world got to see it. I wish I got to see it, too."
What can we do to save this show?
Stargate fans: We are evaluating which petition(s) and efforts to try and really everyone behind, so please stay tuned. In the meantime, @JennyStiven had very helpful insights on today's State of the Gate livestream. If you're invested in this, I encourage you to start there.
Stargate SG-1 actor Michael Shanks is rallying fans to protest Amazon's shock cancellation of its previously-announced franchise revival. https://t.co/KccbeYMV7i

Doom and Age of Empires creator Sandy Petersen blasts Amazon over their handling of Stargate:
"1) get handed a massively popular IP that spans 17 years of successful shows."
"2) realize it has millions of loyal fans, desperate for more. They are now in their 40s and 50s, flush with money. Eager to teach their kids & grandkids about Stargate."
"3) you could start with this. You are already three steps up the ladder to huge success. The fans will evangelize it, if you don't wreck the IP. Don't believe it? Look how the fans evangelized Battlestar Galactica after its 30 year hiatus. And the initial Dr Who reboot after 15 years."
"4) cancel the project because you want a "new take" that will eliminate all the loyal fans and turn them into bitter enemies."
"It's like an ancient Greek play about hubris."
Why are corporate execs like this?
@SeanCarleton Right, a “historian” who doesn’t believe truth is more important than genocide fantasies.
I sure hope you’re not near any students with your poisonous ideas.
It's Day 2 and we demand @AmazonMGMStudio to either...
1) Let the Stargate creators make a new show
2) Release the rights so fans can do it
And no, Hammond won't take your silence as an answer
It feels like we are living in Liberal Canada’s "boiled-frog" syndrome, mixed with the stupidity of someone staring at an erupting volcano and saying, “Relax, the lava probably won’t hit my house.”
The problem is not one bad policy. It is the slow normalization of Carney's economic decline since 2020. Higher taxes. Lower productivity. Weaker services. More crime. Worse housing. More debt. Less competence. Every year the water gets a little hotter, and half the country says, “Well, at least it isn’t boiling yet.”
That is how nations decay. Not always with a bang. Sometimes with a shrug, a subsidy cheque, and a government press conference explaining why the smoke is actually progress.
We need a respectful but powerful campaign to ask Amazon to reverse this decision. Martin and his team always thought of us, now its our turn to help them. @MichaelShanks is right. We need to act fast or we won't see Stargate produced by the right people . @StargateNow
This is the usual fairy tale: “He just demands excellence.”
No. That is the campus-club version of the story.
The real issue is that Canadians were sold “competence” while the ideology was kept in the basement like a leaky water heater. Nobody voted for a PM because they had carefully read Values and said, “Yes, please, give me more top-down managerial climate-finance social engineering.” Most voters just heard “central banker” and assumed adult supervision had finally entered the building.
But Carney’s worldview was never hidden from anyone willing to look. His book is not a resume. It is a manifesto. Even friendly summaries describe it as an argument for major structural change, built around sustainability, fairness, solidarity, and reshaping markets around political values.
And let’s stop pretending he arrived yesterday with clean hands and a hard hat. He formally joined the Liberals as a special economic adviser in 2024, after years of being treated as the party’s economic brain trust since 2020. The country did not slide into weak productivity, unaffordable housing, stagnant living standards, and investment flight because nobody smart was nearby. The smart people were very nearby. That is the problem.
Running a “tight ship” is not impressive when the ship is pointed at the rocks. A strong captain with a bad map is not leadership. It is just confidence with better tailoring.
Carney is not demanding excellence. He is demanding compliance with an ideology most Canadians never knowingly endorsed. That is not courage. That is technocratic bait-and-switch with a nice suit.
Hey @amazon and @AmazonMGMStudio, please reverse your decision on the new Stargate show. Fans want to see it, let it happen, and give Martin Gero and his team free reign with it.
You can still do the right thing!
You are comparing a woman with a successful legal and political career to the President of the United States in an attempt to shame, mock, or disparage her, and yet you call yourselves progressive.
For people who constantly speak about equity, inclusion, and empowering women, it is remarkable how quickly those principles disappear when a woman holds views you do not like.
Apparently, some women are to be celebrated as strong and accomplished, while others are reduced to insults, stereotypes, and personal attacks. The victimhood and equity cards seem to be played only when they are politically convenient.
You are not challenging her ideas. You are attempting to diminish her personally.
That is not progressivism. It is hypocrisy. And I hope more people are starting to see it for what it is.
