“What we want to do in Abia State is to have power in our own hands. In time to come, the entire Abia State will be disconnected from the national grid, and 24-hour electricity supply will be guaranteed across every part of the state.
Electricity matters because about 60–70% of manufacturing costs are tied to energy. I got a call from someone yesterday who already owns a steel plant and wants to relocate it to a state with 24-hour electricity. I told him to come immediately. I have already allocated 5,000 hectares of land to him close to Geometric.”
— Governor Alex Otti speaking today at Invest Lagos.
The Story of Mike Adenuga's Telecom Setback and Comeback happened in the early 2000s.
Nigeria was preparing to liberalize its telecommunications sector and introduce GSM (digital mobile) services to the public. The government (under President Olusegun Obasanjo) held a high-profile auction in January 2001 for GSM licenses.
Mike Adenuga, through his company Communications Investment Limited (CIL), was one of the winners. The license fee was around $285m. Bidders paid a $20 million non-refundable deposit upfront, with the balance($265m) due within about two weeks (by February 9, 2001).
Adenuga's team quickly arranged financing. They went to BNP Paribas (a bank) in Paris to secure the funds. Payment was prepared and reportedly executed (or was in the final stages) before the deadline. However, a major issue arose: the specific frequency spectrum allocated to CIL was already litigious — it was subject to an ongoing court case from a previous licensee.
BNP Paribas, being cautious, reportedly sought an indemnity letter or guarantee from the Nigerian government protecting them against potential legal risks tied to the disputed frequency. The government rejected this condition. As a result, the full payment was not accepted on the government's terms, the deadline technically lapsed (or was deemed not properly met), and CIL's license was revoked. Adenuga lost the $20 million deposit.
But Adenuga did not give up. In 2002, he bid again — this time for the Second National Carrier (SNO) license, which was a broader authorization (mobile + fixed lines + international gateway).
Globacom (Glo) was born from this. Glo launched commercially on August 29, 2003, and quickly disrupted the market by introducing per-second billing (other Telecom providers had claimed it wasn't feasible), more affordable tariffs, and aggressive competition.
This helped drive down costs and expand access for millions of Nigerians.
@DrOaikhena@PeterObi@NigeriaNDCHQ@NgLabour@ADCNig NDC never built their party for you people, it’s a Bayelsa project, you only went there when your ADC coalition didn’t work, they never called you people there
@ansem_edet This is not 2022 bro, as Peter Obi said a few days ago, we must interrogate everything, ask questions. You will not spread misinformation this time around.
@HisgraceEdem Why is he threatening to leave the party because of slots for his people? Is the bigger picture not supposed to be the presidency like Peter Obi has told his people to sacrifice for? Doesn’t that tell you he’s not sold on it? Do I need to be in Dickson’s parlor to know this?
@ansem_edet So? You think we're new to propaganda? Lol. If you like quote BBC and fox. We know these things. This is the only thing the APC knows how to do well, spread misinformation.
It is not the job of any govt to pay people's wedding bills.
The job of govt is simple:
create jobs
secure lives and property
attract investors
provide quality education
clean water
good roads.
Do these well, and people will be able to foot their wedding bills themselves.
Lmao if only that's how it works. After he puts Kwankwaso as president and himself and vice, who will vote? It's not about who holds what position, it's about who can be voted for.
Dickson has not even started yet... When they do the final upload of candidate and you all wake up to see Kwankwaso as President and Dickson as VP heaven will kiss the earth. You want to bully a former Policeman who is also Ijaw 😂😂😂🤣🤣
Kwankwaso is not even sold on whatever it is they’re trying to do, he knows they will not win, he’s just there for his interest and that of his people and that’s what politics is about, only a small section are dumb enough to believe they’re trying to save Nigeria
To the NDC @NigeriaNDCHQ just get it into your head that the Obidient and Kwankwassiya movements are largely not members of any political party and are largely not interested in party politics.
They're willing to work with any political party, but you cannot meddle in their affairs at all or try to coerce them without any consequence.
Do your party politics and do not attempt to control them because that will be resisted.
Thank You For Your Attention To This Matter!!!
