"In three decades working for Rush Limbaugh, I'd never heard him smash-mouth a caller like that." from my piece in the @Jerusalem_Post over 3 years ago:
Rush Limbaugh’s love of Israel continues to inspire https://t.co/sB13Q3iVpX

@Halle2017 He had no good options. He wasn’t going to get into a shooting war with a nation that has the world’s largest nuclear option. But now everyone is Dr. Strangelove and “better red than dead!”

[Dean Karayanis @HistoryDean]

It’s weird to see so many people slamming President Obama’s reaction to Putin invading and annexing Crimea at this late date. But better late than never.

[Michael J. Hicks @HicksCBER]

The war in Ukraine is the cleared moral issue in the world today.

If you struggle to see Russia and Putin as aggressors and Ukrainian and Zelensky as heroic defenders of freedom, you are a moral infant.

[Dean Karayanis @HistoryDean]

Did you make Starlink, Basil, or did @elonmusk. It’s his property. He provided it heroically at the start of the war and Ukraine started hacking it. They’ll fix that and get it back.

[John Cleese @JohnCleese]

Musk is destroying any remaining signs of American democracy

[Dean Karayanis @HistoryDean]

@derekahunter Hshshhssh In what world does “elites” in that context apply to cable hosts and not a former president who just spent $1 billion to displace poor locals in Chicago and build a library?

[Dean Karayanis @HistoryDean]

This is what the world thinks of Mark Carney trying to whip people into a frenzy about America. Unfortunately, like Putin, he’s a demagogue that seeks to fan irrational fears rather than quell them. The USSR lost almost 30 million people in WW2. That’ll leave a scar.

[Maria Popova 🇨🇦 @PopovaProf]

Repeat after me: Russia has no legitimate security concerns; only its neighbours do. Russia has been the only one invading others.

[Dean Karayanis @HistoryDean]

AP never feels the need to tell the political leanings of a guy like Macron, but it might as well be someone like Le Pen’s first name.

I’m confused, Malaka. Why didn’t the US have this obligation in 2014 when Russia invaded and annexed Crimea?

[Admiral James Stavridis, USN, Ret. @stavridisj]

Ukraine today is Britain in 1940, standing alone against aggression while others debate. The U.S. and Europe have a moral and practical obligation to stand with them. I joined @JessicaDean on @CNN.

[Dean Karayanis @HistoryDean]

No, they haven’t. Counting on the picture and people not to read the words. But it’s amazing to me that after 30 years of making the Bush name toxic, they’re think this helps.

[Corby Zone @MissionArtist]

George W. and Laura Bush are backing James Talarico against Trump's terrible candidate Ken Paxton

[Dean Karayanis @HistoryDean]

Um, you wrote that you voted for Nixon to end LBJ’s ill-advised war. Nixon was a Republican and Johnson a Democrat.

Weird.

[Stephen King @StephenKing]

As a kid, I worked for John Reed and Bill Cohen. In college, I became a Democrat because of an ill-advised war , like Trump's adventure in Iran. One goes to college to learn new things. I learned to be a Democrat.

[Dean Karayanis @HistoryDean]

New York Football Giants, leading the NFC East and third in the conference. Insanity. Usually you only get this kind of miracle if you sell your soul to the Devil or beat him in a fiddle contest.

[New York Giants @Giants]

Choosin' Wrong

[Dean Karayanis @HistoryDean]

@26jerome @DanGrazianoESPN Nailed it all. Gotta love a guy who can factor all that in a microsecond.

[Dean Karayanis @HistoryDean]

The Sourh’s Democratic taking points on ending slavery shall rise again. They used to call these jobs a certain kind of work.

[Carla ‘Bluechecked’ Marinucci @cmarinucci]

Good news, red staters. Lots of jobs now open to pick fruit and vegetables in the broiling sun on minimum wage

[Dean Karayanis @HistoryDean]

Seriously. The Muslim Brotherhood is banned or designated as a terrorist group in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Jordan, Syria, and several Central Asian Stans. I don’t think they’re “islamophobic” countries, what with being Muslim and all.

[Jonah Goldberg @JonahDispatch]

I think it's weird how few people are troubled by the gist of Sayed's Islamophobia defense. If you say that asking about support for the Muslim Brotherhood is an Islamophobic attack on your religion, then at some level you're suggesting -- or at least encouraging the inference -- that the MB's form of Islam defines or informs your interpretation of Islam. There are lots of Muslims that don't subscribe to the MB version and when you ask them about the Muslim Brotherhood, they don't respond by saying "how dare you attack my religion?"

[Dean Karayanis @HistoryDean]

You’re all thinking it.

[Eric Idle @EricIdle]

Alex and I at Writers Block on Thursday.

[Dean Karayanis @HistoryDean]

This is a bugaboo of mine. It’s not a partisan statement but reality. People hear people being “charged with treason” over and over in fiction. But only a dozen people have been convicted of federal treason in America. It’s a credit to the framers’ wisdom as, having just committed treason, wanted to ensure that nobody ever had the king’s power.

[Dean Karayanis @HistoryDean]

I don’t expect a Brit who lives under a monarchy — No Kings! — to understand that in the American republic, the bar for treason is set extremely high, and almost nobody in the history of the country, even the Rosenbergs, has ever been charged, must less convicted of treason.

That said, Ukraine violated the terms of use for Starlink, which @ElonMusk had given them to use in the early days of the war to help their effort. They tried to use it for targeting of weapons. Not to mention, it’s his property. He could do whatever he wants with it. It has nothing to do with the government.

And I was speaking of the UK, why don’t you dispatch some troops to Ukraine? Why don’t you send the two or three ships you have left in the Royal Navy? Do you want to get into a nuclear war with Russia, go ahead.

You signed the Budapest memorandum. Do you want to treat it as if it’s a binding document, which it is not, then get your satellites and your soldiers over there and defend Ukraine. It will be a noble endeavor.

They kept right on screaming “Death to America.” Forgive me if I don’t buy pieces of paper promising peace in our time. Russia, the US, and UK signed a guarantee of Ukraine’s borders too. When Russia violated it in 2014, you didn’t go to war to enforce it. Why would you?

[Acyn @Acyn]

OBAMA: Iran didn't have nuclear weapons because I had put a deal in place and I didn't have to fire a missile to do it. I just had to engage in diplomacy.

Who didn’t love Manimal — or Automan?

As for Sledge, be careful. There’s someone out there on X who’s veeeery passionate in defense of the shoe they created.

[Mark Hemingway @Heminator]

What no love for Manimal?

In all seriousness, anyone remember “Probe” from the late 80s? Bad title in retrospect, but clever and way ahead of its time.

Oh and Sledgehammer!
