#OnThisDay in 1532, Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn set sail from Dover to Calais to get approval for Henry's annulment to Catherine of Aragon. Because of this journey Anne was given the new title of Marquis of Pembroke.

#OnThisDay in 1588 Elizabeth I made arguably her most famous speech to the Troops at Tilbury, encouraging her forces to defeat the Spanish Armada. The aim of the armada was to overthrow Queen Elizabeth I and the Tudor establishment in England. The armada failed.

#OnThisDay in 1540 Henry VIII married Catherine Howard. Catherine Howard was Queen of England from 1540 until 1541, as the fifth wife of Henry VIII. Catherine married Henry VIII, almost immediately after the annulment of his marriage to Anne of Cleves was arranged.

#OnThisDay in 1557, Anne of Cleves died. Henry VIII and Anne of Cleves were married for just over 6 months. Henry gave Anne Hever Castle as part of the settlement, which stayed in her possession until her death in 1557.

#OnThisDay in 1543 Henry VIII married Katherine Parr, his 6th and last wife. The wedding was low-key, with just two dozen guests in a small chapel at Hampton Court. Henry later died in early 1547.

#OnThisDay in 1491, Henry VIII was born. Henry changed the course of history - he defied the Catholic church by passing the Act of Supremacy, which allowed his marriage to Catherine of Aragon to be annulled and created what we know today as the Church of England.
