1. The filibuster is not the 'cornerstone' of the Senate. The Founding Fathers did not invent it.
2. The 'prolonged debate' construct was adopted into Senate rules in 1806
3. Cloture was introduced in 1917 as a mechanism to end prolonged debate with a 2/3rd majority vote.
4. The cloture threshold was reduced from 2/3rds to 60 in 1975.

The filibuster is a Senate rule, not a constitutional construct or a principle derived from the Founders.

Will you shed a tear after the Democrats win the mid-terms and Leader Schumer eviscerates the filibuster on day 1?
