In 1904, archeologists unearthed the Oseberg Viking ship in a burial mound in southern Norway. The ship was well-preserved and contained two female skeletons in addition to a large number of grave goods. The vessel dates to the 9th century A.D.
Leif Erikson was a Norse explorer considered to be the first European to reach North America. He was born in Iceland and established a settlement in Vinland around 1000 A.D.
This Viking sword, spearhead, and Piast dynasty helmet were discovered in Poland at Lednica Lake. Such an archeological feat is a testament to the extensive reach of the Viking World.
These helmets were excavated during the 1920s on a Swedish farm called Valsgärde. The helmets were found in ship burials and date to the Vendel Period, ca. 550-790 A.D.
