The Hitachi Global Foundation Asia Innovation Award
From August 24 to 28, we visited Vietnam (Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City) and had the opportunity to meet with university representatives and researchers from Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Ton Duc Thang University, and Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology. We expressed our appreciation for their continued support for The Hitachi Global Foundation Asia Innovation Award program and exchanged views on future collaboration and the further development of the program. We also visited the laboratories of Award recipients and were deeply impressed by the vitality and progress of research and higher education in Vietnam.
We were also delighted to reconnect with alumni of the Hitachi Scholarship Program, the predecessor of the Award. Their achievements highlighted the value of the connections that have been built and nurtured over many years.
A more detailed report on this visit will be shared on the Hitachi Global Foundation Scholars Community page in the near future.

【Realization of an Inclusive Society】
July 30 is the International Day of Friendship, designated by the United Nations.
The International Day of Friendship is based on the idea that many challenges threatening peace and social harmony, such as poverty, violence, and human rights violations, can be addressed by fostering bonds of trust among people while respecting diverse cultures and values.
The Hitachi Global Foundation promotes awareness-building activities aimed at realizing an inclusive society where people from diverse backgrounds and with different perspectives respect one another and live together in harmony.
On June 25, we published the latest issue of “Global Society Review Vol.6”, our online journal. The theme of this issue is “Education × Multicultural Coexistence.”
As the number of children with foreign roots continues to grow in Japan, creating educational environments where every child can learn with confidence and thrive as themselves has become an increasingly important challenge.
This issue explores educational practices and challenges related to building a multicultural society, with a particular focus on ensuring educational opportunities and support for children with foreign roots.
Featured Contents:
• Roundtable Discussion: “The Vision of the OSAKA Multicultural Coexistence Forum”
• Research Article: “Supporting the Career Development of High School Students with Foreign Connections”
• Reportage: “Creating a Place Beyond Language Boundaries”
• Relay Talk: “Initiatives Shaping the Future of Multicultural Coexistence” Vol. 3: Japanese Language Salon Irori
Multicultural coexistence is not only about respecting cultural differences. It is also about building a society where everyone has opportunities to learn, participate, and thrive.
On this International Day of Friendship, we invite you to reflect on the future of multicultural coexistence through the lens of education.

From Global Society Review, Vol. 6, published on June 25, 2026
There are realities that cannot be explained simply by the idea that “hard work makes dreams come true.”
Students with migrant or international backgrounds in Japan often face challenges in making educational and career choices—such as residency status, family circumstances, and gaps in access to information—that cannot be overcome through individual effort alone.
This article examines the inclusiveness and limitations of Japan’s career education system through the experiences of these students. It explores what kinds of support are needed to ensure that every young person can pursue their desired future and make informed choices about their educational and career paths.
