In what was very fascinating field research, I rode along w/ police helicopter units to study how their work in sky connects w/ work of ofcrs on ground.
I argue 🚁 units provide assistance via dift activities using combo of tech, obsv & manual techniques: https://t.co/KTcJ8WVmdn
Absolutely. Imagine if cancer researchers said "in order to be objective, we cannot state whether we wish to eradicate cancer. Whatever our treatment does it does." Madness.

Texas quarterback Arch Manning drew ire from social media, with several prominent women in sports criticizing his flippant reaction to a fake video of his coach striking a female reporter after a victory against Ohio State. https://t.co/Jt5clXwEVS
Why did US homicides fall so dramatically after 2021?
A new paper by @crim_at_penn PhD student Ethan Doshi asks whether the $350B American Rescue Plan had anything to do with it.
Ethan's answer: Probably not much. Across 570 US cities, federal recovery funding predicts essentially none of the variation in homicide declines.
As it turns out there is one really good predictor of the decline in homcides among cities: How much homicide had risen in the first place. Mean reversion explains half of the cross-city variation.
The paper also shows how easy it is to mistake a policy implemented during a crime reversal for the cause of that reversal.
Full paper here. it is short and sweet and a must read for anyone who follows CJ policy in the United States closely: https://t.co/VUT9TibVoA
Why are there such stark racial/ethnic disparities in gun violence? Check out my new free open access paper in @FrontiersIn Public Health: https://t.co/85agr8ZjrK
I am sure this is a very common take but I don’t actually think college sports are the problem. The bigger issue is the prisoner’s dilemma type environment. You would think that since most are state entities they could get the coordination problem solved.
This video should give you an idea of just how excited I was to christen 3Dirigo X, a project that represents Maine ingenuity at its best. This 30-foot, 3D-printed vessel is a testament to the expertise of Dr. Habib Dagher and his team of researchers at UMaine’s Advanced Structures and Composites Center. My first official visit as a freshman Senator was to Dr. Dagher’s lab. I have been proud to support their pioneering work to this day.
