The people who agree with you, already do. And the people who don’t, might be right or wrong. But respectful discourse is the only way forward/solution
@damienmgrant Understand why it’s asked but it’s kind of an unfair question in the sense that you can’t see what could have happened. I think the more important questions are:
Do you think the reaction incorporated optimal ethical and informed decision making?
No
@NZGreens@jamespeshaw While I disagree with what she said, I think this is an unfair triangulation bringing in such an emotional issue rather than giving the logic and evidence for why she’s wrong. Similar to the ‘you want to kill granny’ response to people who were questioning vax safety
@IrishUnity 1: The difference in how people define it.
2: Historical upset that’s still very real for many
3: gobshites
4: gobshite politicians who make things worse while proclaiming to be trying to make things better
@philwollerman @kehetauhauaga Not perfectly, but ethically.
They relied on public opinion and the ‘granny killing’ narrative > a robust ethical argument
@CissyEpifany@Maga4Justice@libsoftiktok Ah, see I was just responding to the point about people being born in a place, not being deserving of brutality just because of the sins of their ancestors
@CissyEpifany@Maga4Justice@libsoftiktok Ethnicity wasn’t the point I was making- rather- the colonisation of Ireland by the English, murder of families and theft of land by English Protestants. Today, the north has many native protestants who played no part in how they came to be there (they were born there)
@Maga4Justice@libsoftiktok Do you really want to belong to a group that has been colonised, murdered, robbed and kicked out of their homes just so you can say: Oooh boohoo look at us, same thing has happened to us 😂 Try something else! South-Africa is a BAD example.
@CissyEpifany@Maga4Justice@libsoftiktok How about protestants in Northern Ireland? On the principal of: yes the history is awful, but people born in a place had no choice in the matter of where they were born and are not deserving of ill treatment because of history they don’t perpetuate (existence isn’t perpetuation)
