@ChibiReviews Unlike translators, a localizers job IS to vandalize the source material, so maybe it would be more correct to say that they have been hugely successful?
@MadamSavvy Life beomes a little easier once you realize that a localizers job IS to vandalize the source material by definition.
So asking them to do translations is like asking the local butcher to heal your pig.
@StillHazoDDD Sir, I believe that is called translation, which is different from localization.
Translation: To convert one language to another.
Localization: To adjust the translation for a target audience.
One is respectful of the original text, the other vandalizes it.
@AyakaMods "we plan to review all in-game text alongside our localization partners"
Isn't he just going back to the localizers who vandalized his game?
@ChristinaTasty "we plan to review all in-game text alongside our localization partners"
They are just going back to the localizers to make "corrections", aren't they?
@moefumofu "we plan to review all in-game text alongside our localization partners"
He's going back to the people who vandalized his game to make "corrections". Unbelievable.
@Scratch_Point_Z Also, I think this misunderstanding is partly done on purpose to make discourse impossible.
People are talking about vastly different things when it comes to this topic and no one seems to understand what anyone is saying anymore.
@Scratch_Point_Z Localization is the process of adapting a work into a target audience. (E.g. Removing the Japanese)
Translation is the process of converting one text from another. (E.g. Japanese -> English equivalent).
Localizers aren't translators and their job is actually to vandalize.
@SoulReveat I mean, isn't this what localizers do by design? Vandalizing the original work is kind of their goal, even when done "well". They are localizers, not translators, after all.
