QUICK ACTION AFTER DROWNING:
1. Remove them from the water only if safe and call police and ambulance
2. If unresponsive and NOT breathing normally, lay them FACE-UP on a firm surface. Give 2 rescue breaths, then 30 chest compressions. Continue 30:2.
3. If unable to give breaths, continue chest compressions.
4. Use an AED when available.
5. If unconscious but breathing normally, place them SIDEWAYS in the recovery position, with the face angled slightly downward and airway open.
6. Keep them warm and monitor breathing.
7. Never leave them face-down, hang them upside down or press their stomach to remove water.
8. They need urgent medical assessment even if they recover.
Remember: Not breathing = FACE-UP for CPR.
Breathing = SIDEWAYS in recovery position.
