These prosecutors are despicable. Don't tell me "they're just doing their job." If it's their "job" to bring overzealous first degree murder charges, and then try to get a conviction by throwing out every emotional manipulation tactic they can, their "job" is clearly abominable, and something needs to be done forthwith, politically or otherwise, to rectify this outrageous misuse of public resources.

EXAMPLE: Introducing a million redundant photos of the dead children into evidence, as if what they looked like couldn't have been established after the first one or two. Why? Because they're such cute little kids, and so obviously everybody who looks at the photos feels terrible. The photos unto themselves prove nothing about Lindsay's criminal culpability, though -- it's all just about trying to emotionally overwhelm the jurors, by using these poor dead children as props. And then of course the photos get splashed across the internet for all to see.

But definitely most depraved is flaunting around photos of their strangled little bodies, probably scarring the jurors for life, and superfluously showing these awful photos to a police officer on the stand, so even this big burly man gets so upset he cries in front of the jury.

Horrible.

Something that Twitter/X made me understand is that large swaths of people cannot take in even a short text, and get a general sense of the meaning. They will read one sentence - sometimes even a few words - and have a sharp emotional reaction. Then they attack the writer for something he didn’t even say - because the reader just couldn’t put it all together.

I used to think ‘reading comprehension’ questions on standardized tests were dumb because anyone could do them. But that is not true. There are people so triggered by words or phrases that they lose the ability to process information - or they bring their own baggage into a text and can’t evaluate it objectively.

This must be a little sliver in the IQ discourse (with which I’m only vaguely familiar as someone who read the Bell Curve a long time ago). It can’t just be about ‘g’ and processing complex info. It must also be about some people being overwhelmed with emotion that partially shuts down whatever ‘g’ they might have. This might explain why a chess grandmaster who can score 140+ on an IQ test can be a total idiot in politics.
