Single-female-headed households in Maine face tough times. In 2021, 40% of these households couldn't meet the ALICE Household Survival Budget, and another 35% were below the Federal Poverty Line. That's a whopping 75% struggling to provide for their families.
Personal Care Aides - the 3rd most common job in Maine β earned a median hourly wage of $14.28. Thatβs just barely above the ALICE Household Survival Budget, and 42% of these workers fell below the ALICE threshold in 2021.
