@codeman9 @CoachRevak @chasmahoney At younger levels, throw anything at them if it’s an applicable skill.
Two other SAG themes I’ve used are: 1) Make a 1v1 move before passing and 2) passes has to be one-touches. Goals scored after successful completion = 2 pts…but opposition also gets 2 pts off TO plus 5 sec

@HockeyThinkTank Share the stats of scoring: 1) a player w/ the puck on their stick has <3% chance of scoring…can be raised to 15% if skating lateral. 2) passing a lateral pass to a teammate who shoots quickly = 25% chance of scoring.
Top players know this! Not surprised MB passed it in the end

@Woodsauce24 @eeseejee @HockeyThinkTank Maybe…it’s a safe play…and they were winning 2-1! However, he does have space to skate into towards the opposite side…this Creates Chaos and forces D to think. If he stays away from sticks = safer play. At younger ages, encourage treasuring the puck and making hockey plays

@eeseejee @HockeyThinkTank 4) Even the dump in is an option as he should be able to beat the standing still D and continue the puck possession. Dumping in to change is safe, but my goal is for players to visualize plays that will have an IMPACT!

@eeseejee @HockeyThinkTank 3) Back to clip…a) D were standing still = Speed Differential = Higher odds of beating D = OK decision to try the 1x2. B) He can shoot thru D to get a Screen. C) Try to get into SLOT/ Top of Circles and shoot or D) Continue across ice, stay away from sticks and wait for help.

@eeseejee @HockeyThinkTank 2) In our Program, we start with “What makes a good scoring chance?” And then the Problem Solving is based from there. A) Shots from the SLOT/Mid Ice, B) SCREENED Goalie or C) OFF A PASS increases your odds of scoring (=Green Shot)

At higher levels, there is an 8% of beating a D 1x1…u can increase that by having SPEED DIFFERENTIAL, which he did. That’s why McDavid often has his odds of beating D

@parkerblock @CoachRevak I would say that is part of the evolution of learning. At the younger ages, they should strive to find Open Ice (often = outside). At higher levels it’s more about creating chaos…plus players now have skills to handle plays in traffic. There is a time and place for everything

Once a player understands how to create hi % scoring chances, they will look 4 & get there more often offensively…AND like @HLundqvist says, take away the better options 4 other team 👍🏻👍🏻
