If we were actually serious about student success, we’d do some obvious things:
• Start school later
• Stop stretching the day just to cram more in
• Protect arts, PE, and recess
• Build around kids’ strengths, not just what they miss
• Let students think, create, and explore
• Stop letting tests drive everything
• Make school enjoyable again
• Notice and celebrate growth
Most of this isn’t radical.
It’s just common sense we keep ignoring
New study finds education research is out of touch w/the needs of teachers:
Equity, social justice, & identity appeared 2x the frequency of any other area in American Educational Research Association meetings
But teachers’ top concerns were far more practical, like student behavior and discipline…
The few discussions tackling discipline focused on restorative justice, which places greater burdens on teachers

WAYS TO IMPROVE Education
1. Stop viewing our kids as numbers
2. Provide actual consequences for students
3. Kids need physical play/exercise
4. Provide more supports for teachers
5. Provide teachers more prep time
6. Smaller class sizes
7. Increase teacher salaries
This isn’t about teachers not wanting to work outside of their contract, it’s the fact that teachers are asked to do more and more each year with no additional time or pay to do it. It’s not sustainable.
Happy Gotcha Day Franklin! 3 yrs ago he became our class pet and has been a cranky, funny little guy ever since! He’s met 100s in that time & has been a great ambassador for reptiles everywhere! He used to fit in the palm of my hand & now he’s fills my arm! #classpet
