Scandal brewing in “neutral” Ireland after revelations that one Russian-affiliated plant there has been supplying over 83% Irish exports of alumina to Russia where it’s smelted into aluminum, a critical component for war production.
Aughinish Alumina in County Limerick, Europe’s largest alumina refinery, owned by United Company Rusal (Russia’s largest aluminium producer), whose parent EN+ Group was founded by sanctioned oligarch Oleg Deripaska. An investigation by the Irish Times, OCCRP and other outlets, drawing on confidential documents, customs data and satellite imagery, established the supply chain.
The Irish government tried to deflect but when a reporter filmed the plant with signs in Russian, they could no longer deny it. Now internal documents were leaked showing that the company is threatening the Irish government with loss of jobs and all sorts of things if it tried to curb its exports to Russia.
The newest defense is that alumina isn’t under EU sanctions so technically no rules were broken. Except Ireland had no problem defying the EU and forging ahead with its own restrictions on imports from Israel with its Occupied Territories Bill. Because… reasons (or maybe Russian occupation of Ukraine is OK while Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands is not).
Australia stopped its alumina exports to Russia because the material is so necessary for the war (its main exporter was also 20%-owned by Deripaska). The neutral Irish government is operating under different standards, where morality is spelled in Russian.
I wonder what the Irish people, who overwhelmingly support Ukraine (in fact, they are among the strongest supporters in Europe when it comes to economic and financial aid), think about all of this.
@realgerhardtvdm@boogiehacker123 lol in russia everything is "downtown LA" on steroids, except for the actual moscow downtown. I dare Candice Owens to go alone without her white hubby to Lyubertsy for a day or two
@realgerhardtvdm so.. r*apists, pdfiles, Ukrainophobes, antisemites, and conspiracy theorists. But even all this scum only visits russia when they are paid to do so.
@liminalmancave@RealCandaceO I doubt russians love their own children either. So many russian mothers are happy to exchange their sons for Lada cars and mortgage downpayments.
@Simply_Shula@RealCandaceO just leave your husband and kid in a hotel for a couple of days and go outside moscow's city center alone. Genocide supporters deserve to experience the real russia and real russians, not the police-infested moscow downtown
The decision has been made.
37 states officially approved the agreement necessary to establish the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine and move it towards operation in The Hague. This is a milestone for international justice.
The Tribunal is built on a principle established after the Second World War: those who unleash wars of aggression bear personal responsibility for that decision. Russia’s war against Ukraine did not happen by itself. It was planned, authorised and executed by specific individuals.
They must be held accountable. Because lasting peace is impossible without justice – and aggression must never remain without consequences.
Last night, a family was affected when a residential area in Kherson, including a playground, came under Russian attack. The father was killed, the mother and two children were wounded, and one child remains in extremely critical condition. This cynical Russian attack is yet another act of genocide and a war crime, for which the terrorist state will certainly be held accountable.
‼️ Please do NOT look away!
Watch the video! Feel what people just like you felt at the moment Russian forces attacked a playground in Kherson.
Children were wounded. One little girl lost an eye.
Please share! The world needs to see what Russia is doing to innocent Ukrainians.

russia tortured to death at least 375 Ukrainian soldiers and civilians in captivity.
Their bodies show clear signs of torture and starvation. Each case is proof of what happens in russian captivity.
This is not isolated — it is a systematic policy directed from the top.
@RepNancyMace@BrilynHollyhand Is this YOU, lying hypocrite? Iryna Zarutska was sitting on that train because of MAGAtrds like you, @realDonaldTrump, and @JDVance personally, who brag about blocking aid to Ukraine. She wouldn’t be a refugee if MAGAs hadn’t blocked military aid to Ukraine.
@BrilynHollyhand Why is Iryna Zarutska the only Ukrainian MAGAs care about? You blocked and stopped all aid to Ukraine, you withheld intel to help putin, @JDVance brags that leaving Ukraine without aid is his biggest achievement, and he's proud of it. Iryna Zarutska didn't have to be a refugee!
Throughout May 5, Russia carried out numerous attacks across Ukraine. As a result of strikes targeting nine regions, at least 27 people have been killed and over 120 injured – all in a single day. Following its usual tactics of terror, many civilian sites have been hit.
A day that should have marked the entry into force of a ceasefire proposed by Ukraine is instead ending with a rising toll of victims from intensified Russian attacks.
There are no signs that Russia is planning to stop its senseless and brutal war, and no clear response indicating a return to diplomacy for the sake of lasting peace – only more killings.
While Russia shows no interest in saving human lives, a collective and firm position is needed from all those who support the protection of life and value peace. Terror must be stopped.
Russians murdered 26 civilians just today:
▪️Zaporizhzhia — 12 dead
▪️Donetsk region — 5 dead
▪️Poltava region — 5 dead
▪️Dnipro — 4 dead
Then russians want a one-day ceasefire to celebrate all the killing.
Today, we announced $270 million of new military support to Ukraine.
Ukraine’s fight is our fight. Their cause — freedom, democracy, sovereignty — is our cause. Good to see President @ZelenskyyUa today in Yerevan. 🇨🇦🇺🇦
