The hillfort at Dunsapie Craig in #HolyroodPark was small, but elaborate.
It's surrounded by ramparts built from earth and stone. Inside there's traces of platforms where timber roundhouses may have stood.

⚠ Duddingston Low Road will be closed in both directions between Holyrood Park Road and Duddingston Village between 9.30am and 3pm on Wednesday 13 November.
The closure is to allow for the removal of rock which has collected at the catch fences in the area.

@DanHillier@ScotWildlife@HistEnvScot@welovehistory Good question! Grazing maintains a high diversity of wildflower species as the cattle prevent the grassland from becoming tall and rank. This allows wildflower species to flourish, benefitting insects 🙂
Last week we welcomed back @ScotWildlife Shetland cattle to #HolyroodPark. The bulls do a brilliant job grazing our grasslands and enhancing biodiversity 🐄🐂🪻 #Coosday
Our Bauks View superstars were out cutting back gorse in Holyrood Park with the Holyrood Ranger Service. A change of scenery from our usual place in the park! It was great to have a new experience and make such a visible difference in a greenspace that's right on the doorstep!
It was a beautiful day in #HolyroodPark to celebrate #WorldRangerDay ☀️⛰️
Come along on a ranger event to learn more about some amazing @welovehistory properties

The view behind me whilst out with @HistEnvScot rangers in Holyrood Park looking for Bordered Brown Lacewings. One found by @HolyroodRanger plus great views of a peregrine falcon.
@wiieb@EdinburghMinute Hello, sadly we have lost around 40 swans at St Margaret's Loch to avian flu over the last 2 winters ☹️ This has obviously had a big impact, alongside the fact that some swans leave the loch each summer to breed elsewhere.
@joaniemac17 Hello, we noticed the mass emergence of toadlets earlier this month. We always leave some vegetation/sticks against the pavement to help them clamber over, which makes it a bit easier for them 🙂
A small but special species! It was great to find a few Bordered Brown Lacewings on a recent survey in #HolyroodPark. This rare insect is only found in a few places across the UK 🪰@Buzz_dont_tweet @BuglifeScotland
A terrapin at Dunsapie Loch yesterday. I have known about it/them being there for a while, but this was my first sighting. Thank you to Ranger Gordon for the tip. #HolyroodPark#Edinburgh
Great guided photography walk of Arthur's Seat w/ @HistEnvScot's Ranger Service – our group learned about the work of a ranger, the geology and history of Holyrood Park, and the flora and fauna that thrives there 💚.

@HistEnvScot The purpose of the fence is not to exclude people nor dogs from the area. There are multiple access points available, with signs alerting park users about ground nesting birds and how to visit the area responsibly.
This year the @HistEnvScot ranger team has installed a new breeding bird fence on part of Salisbury Crags to highlight this sensitive area and encourage responsible access 🚶🪧
@LaineyBradley @LothianARG Our understanding and some research published suggested that the majority of toads ending up in drains are waiting for darkness again before emerging 🙂 Amazing! It’s a good thing to do. We always do a final check each morning before opening the road to traffic too
