Year 7 were treated to Holyrood’s own version of a Royal Society of Chemistry Christmas Lecture today! Our very own Greatest Showman - Mr Pearce - captivated the students with dry ice, explosions, air-zookas, big bangs (and his Christmas suit)🎄🎅🏻
Amazing time with Y7 doing a Royal society style Christmas lecture! All about gas. We had fun playing in science club with Y8 with some of the demos we did too! A great science team with the most amazing tech support.
Well done to all our science A level and GCSE students. We are so very proud of you all and wish you the best of luck for the future whatever it brings. It’s been a tough year but results like last week and today make it all worth while.
Testing for the phenol group to see if the aspirin students made has no more salicylic acid in. Left - pure aspirin no phenol. Salicylic acid, recrystallised and impure aspirin in the 3 others. So, the 3rd test tube isn’t pure but definitely different to their impure sample. 👏🏻
Crest silver coming to an end for the year. Final melting point determination to check purity after making their aspirin. Phenol test too. And they are only in Y8 and 9! @Holyrood6thForm just wait until they are in Y13!

@martin_sarah@hoppo1@CRESTAwards I don’t know about making @DaveMaccormick day but this comment has made ours. We are so privileged to share the fun and laughter of learning with these students. Opportunities for all to enjoy and succeed.
