In 2020, Richard Kenneth Speed III was identified and captured following an Aggravated Robbery crime spree that lead to the Capital Murder of Jose Francisco Galeano Antunez. Without LPR this case very well may have gone unsolved.
Austin's police chief and mayor say that if Austin had license plate readers it could have helped with today's manhunt and shootings
This incident is going to re-open that debate , recently some city council members have been fighting hard against this type of surveillance tech
Today we honor Austin Police Officer Ralph Ablanedo. He was fatally shot with an AK-47 during a traffic stop on East Live Oak Street after ticketing the driver and beginning to check the passenger. He served APD for under 5.5 years and left behind his wife and two sons.
True at the same time:
1. Homicides are declining nationally, including in Austin.
2. Austin used to be safer than the country. Now Austin is more dangerous, and the gap is growing.
Anita, thank you for courage and for bravely sharing your story. It was a pleasure to meet you.
Anita’s story is a tragedy, and one shared by far too many families across the country who have suffered first at the hands of violent criminals, and again from the reckless decisions of rogue district attorneys and activist judges.
We will not kowtow to radical, lawless ideologies and we will give Texans more power to hold their local leaders accountable.
AUSTIN WOMAN walks into an East Austin smoke shop, grabs a blind man's walking stick, and swings it at him. When it misses, she seizes his dreadlocks with both hands and won't let go until a bystander tackles her to the ground.
That was Clinisha Henderson's second attack on Smoking Burnouts in five weeks. Four weeks later she came back and trashed it a third time.
Three attacks since Thanksgiving. Nearly $30,000 in damage. An officer assaulted.
After the second attack:
• Felony criminal mischief charge dropped - no charges filed
• Bond on the blind man assault set at $1
• "No new arrests" condition added to her bond
19 days after that condition was added: arrested at the same store, again.
She had a court-ordered stay-away from the store. Violated it at least twice.
More than a dozen arrests in Travis County. Most charges dropped or dismissed.
The store owner is a small local business. Tells @fox7austin he’s looking into hiring a security guard he can't afford - because the DA and courts won't do their jobs.
Daniel Perry did not have a dashcam to prove his innocence however his detailed account of being surrounded and forced to stop by protesters WAS corroborated.
Protester J.S. told APD, “A bunch of people jump in front of him and they stop—and people start pounding on the windows and doors and all this.”
Protester P.C. told APD, “Right after the car came in—and—we ALL—pretty much got—like I said—all around—protesters got around it—and it stopped” and added, “It was when we were all starting—going around it—like—had it enough to where it was boxed in—cause we were trying to make it so he wouldn’t be able to leave.”
What did the TCDAO do with this knowledge? Indict Daniel Perry for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon – Motor Vehicle.
Did the State call either of these protesters to testify at trial? No.
For historical context, in a similar incident in Austin, J.S. reported to APD , "I almost hit one of the protesters--because he ran out of nowhere and jumped right in front of my car."
And yet another incident in Austin, in which a Door Dash driver reported that protesters intentionally placed themselves in the path of his vehicle on E. 8th Street and boxed him in. Action that cause that driver to pull a firearm in self-defense.
🚨#BREAKING: Tennessee Highway Patrol has just released dashcam footage after a TN legislator claimed a person was "run over" by a state trooper during an anti-ICE protest.
However, the footage shows 3 people jumping in front of a police car and 1 person flopping onto the hood of the vehicle.
"The Tennessee Highway Patrol is releasing dashcam video from the incident in question in the interest of transparency and to allow the public to assess the facts for themselves."
"The video shows two men, including presumably the person the legislator identified, running into the cruiser on their own accord."
"This video is being made available so citizens can view the actual events and draw their own conclusions."
Today we honor Police Officer Elkins Morrison. He was the detective on duty when he was struck by a vehicle at 11 p.m. in the 300 block of Congress Avenue while attempting to cross during foggy conditions. Officer Morrison was taken to Brackenridge Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries the next morning.
He served with the Austin Police Department for five years and was survived by his wife and three children.
AUSTIN MAN breaks into a woman's home in the middle of the night wielding a knife, attempts to sexually assault her - then DA drops the charge.
Westly Barnes now faces burglary with intent to commit sex offense, attempted sexual assault with a knife, aggravated assault with deadly weapon, and terroristic threat.
DA declined the attempted sexual assault charge.
Barnes' 2025 arrest cycle:
January ’25: Caught stealing jacket and noodles. When arrested, meth fell from his pockets. Barnes joked "he had a meth pipe in his booty hole."
May: Arrested climbing fence at apartment complex, checking apartment doors.
A week later: Caught rummaging through UPS van. When confronted, pulled butcher knife and told parking attendant: "you look like the last mother fucker I stabbed."
July: Woman loading boxes in parking garage saw Barnes walking toward her masturbating with penis exposed. She fled in her car. Same day, man's Ring camera captured Barnes masturbating outside apartment door while girlfriend was home alone.
August: Police say Barnes broke into woman's home at night with knife, attempted to sexually assault her. Charged with burglary with intent to commit sex offense, aggravated assault with deadly weapon, attempted aggravated sexual assault. DA declined the sex assault charge.
Prior record: 8 years prison for armed robberies with firearm—robbed Radio Shack with gang (2016). Shot man 3 times outside the ARCH, hid under car (2015). Assault family violence strangulation reduced to misdemeanor (2014). Aggravated assault with deadly weapon reduced to misdemeanor (2024).
Current status: Indecent exposure and burglary charges still pending.
In Travis County:
27 charges
16 felonies
10 plea deals
5 felonies reduced to misdemeanors
2 dismissals
1 declined to prosecute
0 jury trials
8 charges pending (6 felonies)
Gross misrepresentations and half-truths. Context matters.
The State conflated peaceful protesting with references in Daniel Perry’s social media to criminal behavior by others to fit and perpetuate a false narrative. The social media of Daniel Perry clearly delineated peaceful protesting and those who are using the protests as a cover for engaging in criminal acts such as looting, rioting [damage to property/ Injury to persons], destroying statues and monuments, shooting at Law Enforcement, blinding people with lasers, Criminal Trespassing on Military Installations under lock-down, etc.
Perry commented on a post from May 29th, ‘One is a protester the others are looters”
Days later, Perry posted, ‘I am willing to bet if the community had a special fund that the businesses paid into for emergencies they could hire security guards during times of turmoil and violence against businesses and then get rid of them when everything is normalized’
Perry replied to a posting, ‘Pretty much I do not live in deep ellum but I support the small businesses there by shopping there and enjoy whatever free time I have over there because I love the community and I enjoy the small businesses there it hurts watching videos of people being almost beating to death because they are trying to protect there [sic] dream’
And another, “that could be more or you on the street being almost beaten to death for trying to protect mine or your small business that somehow survived the covid lockdown only to be attacked by looters’
Perry even posted, ‘You can say I am with them in police brutality but I am not with them or [sic] looting and their views on systemic racism’
Perry posted an on-line story, ‘A black firefighter in Minneapolis used his life savings to open a sports bar in the city and was brought to tears when looters destroyed it.’
Looting was the reigning headline of the day but that did not fit the narrative that needed to be pushed by the TCDAO in their prosecution of Daniel Perry.
In closing arguments, the TCDAO told the jury, “It’s not just anger at the protesters—it’s talking about taking action against the protesters—talking about shooting protesters.”
The TCDAO told jurors, “He said he might go to Dallas to shoot protesters.”
The TCDAO misrepresented the comment by intentionally replacing the word “looters” with “protesters” in order to push the false narrative of using force against protesters.
Daniel Perry never stated that he might go to Dallas to shoot protesters. Conveniently, the TCDAO left out of full context in which Perry added, “Ya if it was not for the army I would probably be spending a few nights on a roof protection farther’s [father’s] business from looters.”
For historical context, the conversation regarding Daniel Perry and the protection of his family’s business from looters took place before the Kyle Rittenhouse incident in Kenosha, Washington.
Two days before the homicide, Perry posted:
There is nothing wrong with protesting what is wrong is shooting fireworks at people destroying property. Trying to trespass on federal property that is on lock down, blinding people with lasers.
As with Daniel Perry, would there be compelled withholding of exculpatory evidence, threats of retaliation, gross misrepresentations of evidence and half-truths?
What ever happened to the Texas Disciplinary Rules of Professional Conduct?
Securing indictment(s) known not to be supported by Probable Cause? KNOWN.
Garza knows that I have receipts and that APD management at that time assisted his effort to keep those details secret.
I personally presented the Daniel Perry investigation to Travis County District Attorney Jose Garza on 1/19/2021. Mere days after he took office.
I was told by prosecutors on no less than three occasions that Garza was behind key decisions regarding what evidence would be allowed to be presented in the Daniel Perry case.
Not only did the Travis County District Attorney’s Office have a willingness to misrepresent evidence but overtly pushed a false narrative to sway the jury.
Why present his social media, without proper context, as a half-truth if it truly proports what was proclaimed?
I secured social media for other parties in this case as well. Social media that was FAR more damning than that by Perry, but I was given special instruction not to discuss their social media at trial. An opportunity that the Travis County District Attorney’s Office seized to exploit at trial.
In defense of the jurors, I would have personally convicted Daniel Perry as well had the “evidence” presented by the Travis County District Attorney’s at trial been actually true.
The Travis County District Attorneys’ Office should be above reproached but in my opinion were given too much standing by the court and jury. The “evidence” presented by TCDAO in the Perry trial was FAR from a balanced account. The jury was only allowed to be presented with a sliver of what evidence exists.
Even a juror came forward afterwards to report that the jury did not exhibit a willingness to deliberate evidence contrary to their beliefs that Perry was racist and guilty of murder.
Never should this have happened to Daniel Perry, Austin Police Officer Christopher Taylor or others that are still waiting their fate.
The public has yet to see video footage of the State’s star witness(es) in Daniel Perry conducting an unprovoked vehicle assault prior to the homicide.
Ramming the end of a flagpole into the radiator grill of a passing motorist that was simply attempting to turn right onto E. 8th Street from the frontage. In concert, protesters surrounded that vehicle, pounded on the hood with their hands, jerked driver’s door handle and attempted to kick the rear quarter panel with feet in an overt effort to intimidate the driver.
One-off? NOT AT ALL. Other drivers prior to the homicide described the same type of behavior of protesters in Travis County. Expressing fear that they would be extracted from their own vehicles by protesters and assaulted or killed.
Daniel Perry was NOT the first driver to pull a firearm in response to actions by the SAME group of protesters. TCDAO is well aware. THEY interviewed a protester who told them the same prior to the trial. The protester even lied to the TCDAO when asked if anyone had assaulted Daniel Perry’s vehicle. This protester later admitted that he kicked Perry’s car, yet the TCDAO had no issue sponsoring his testimony at trial.
Response to this activity by the Travis County District Attorney and County Attorney? Drop ALL criminal charges against at least seven of the protesters stemming from the 2020 riots and name them as witnesses against Perry at the murder trial.
Handcuffed by Travis County District Attorney Jose Garza and the court, the attorneys representing Daniel Perry were prohibited from presenting evidence of first aggressor or that protesters were acting in concert to box in drivers and conduct vehicle assaults. Evidence of such, by protesters’ own account, is OVERWHELMING.
The actions of the protesters in my opinion are just as culpable.
I PERSONALLY provided those videos to the Travis County District Attorney’s Office, however the public to this day has yet to see or hear about them. Garza fought the release of the videos prior to the upcoming Deadly Conduct charge that he secured against Daniel Perry. An indictment that is directly and unequivocally refuted by the evidence.
Ask @chrisharris904 if you have any doubt. He has been trying to gain transparency through the TCDAO on this case for years. Blocked by the TCDAO at every request. All the way to the 8th court of appeals.
Will Daniel Perry get a fair trial in County Court for the Deadly Conduct? That has yet to be seen.
Q. Did your perception of Alex Pretti change after you saw the subsequent video of him spitting at Federal Law Enforcement Officers and kicking out the taillight of their vehicle just days prior?
A. If yes, wait until you see the video that I personally provide to the Travis County District Attorney’s Office regarding a vehicle assault conducted by a State Witness in the trial of Daniel Perry. Video footage that has yet to be publicly released.
Local prosecutors should be working with, not against, federal law enforcement to enforce the law and keep our communities safe.
Cooperation -- not obstruction from soft-on-crime district attorneys -- is how we uphold the Constitution and ensure justice for all.
Texas DA’s should be focused on prosecuting crimes in Texas, not joining committees seeking to undermine the rule of law.
