Speaking at a press briefing, the Chairman of the Committee, Barr. Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado, disclosed that the Task Force had arrested more than 380 suspects, while over 230 suspects prosecuted had already been convicted by the courts.

The Multi-Agency Task Force Committee was established by His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, as part of the administration’s efforts to combat drug abuse, illicit trafficking and related crimes across Kano State.

The war against drug abuse continues in Kano State.

Politics is Local.

In Nigerian politics, you don’t win by yourself. You win by building relationships, earning the confidence of local actors and having a political structure that can mobilise people when it matters.

That is what political structure is all about: people on the ground who understand their communities, know the stakeholders and can turn political support into actual votes. You need them at every level. No politician, no matter how popular, can do it alone.

Before Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf moved to the APC, the Kwankwasiyya movement had built several layers of this structure: the Kwankwasiyya structure itself, the CRC structure across the 484 wards, the Kano Propa structure, the PDP Option A and B structures, and the NNPP structure.

When Governor Abba made the move to the APC, these structures largely moved with him. Across the 44 LGAs, consultations were held and the structures agreed to follow their Governor into the APC. The 44 elected Local Government Chairmen also joined him.

That was not a small political movement. It brought together a formidable grassroots network and the machinery of the Kano State Government, alongside the old APC political bloc that delivered more than 800,000 votes in the 2023 gubernatorial election.

You now have major political figures and grassroots operators such as Baba Ganduje, Senator Barau, His Excellency Murtala Garo, Baffa Babba, Hon. Abba Bichi and Engr. A.T.M. Gwarzo, among many others, coming together with former Governor Shekarau’s political camp under the leadership of Governor Abba Gida-Gida.

That combination explains a lot about what we are seeing in Kano today.

Yesterday’s performance was not a coincidence. It was the result of years of political organisation, relationships and grassroots mobilisation coming together under one umbrella.

And when you have a political house filled with people who understand grassroots politics, mobilisation becomes much easier.

We saw another indication of this strength in the recently concluded INEC CVR exercise, where Kano led the country in newly registered voters.

But beyond the numbers and the structures, there is another important factor: leadership.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has managed the party’s affairs in Kano with a level of political maturity that has helped keep internal crises to a minimum. More importantly, he has opened the door for reconciliation, bringing together political interests and individuals whose differences existed long before his move to the APC.

His handling of the APC primaries was another example. The party went through the process successfully, with 100% success and zero litigation.

The reality of Nigerian politics is simple: structure matters. Popularity matters. Organisation matters. And when election day comes, all three have to work together.

In Kano, the APC now has a formidable political structure. It’s the warring parties that fought the 2023 General Elections coming together in one roof, united and committed.

Governor Abba is working. He has not betrayed Kanawa.

WATER INFRASTRUCTURE UPDATE

The Kano State Government is recording steady progress across key water project sites.

At the Tamburawa Intake and Challawa Water Works, essential filtration materials have been successfully delivered. Critical manifold repairs are also advancing at the High Lift Pump Station to boost water processing capacity.

Concurrently, vital structural upgrades and the installation of air ventilators are well underway at the Goron Dutse Reservoirs.

The Government remains strictly focused on quality and timely execution across all sites. This is in line with His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s unwavering commitment to permanently ending water scarcity in Kano State.
