These are some of his works. I’ve always maintained that there is really no such thing as a “lowbrow” area.
A lowbrow area is simply an area that has been neglected by government.
Whether it is a low-income or middle-income community, people deserve basic infrastructure, good roads, standard drainage, clean surroundings, beautification, public spaces and other amenities. Unnecessary street trading that defaces the environment should also be eliminated or properly organised.
Just look at the beautiful work he has done, the lighting, inner-road construction and standard drainage. When it rains, residents shouldn’t have to live in fear.
Rain is a natural phenomenon, but when rain becomes a source of fear, then there is a problem with the environment.
I encourage all local governments to do their part. Well done sir @Hon_KareemAzeez . 👏🏾
This is the scorecard of a local government chairman in Oto-Awori LCDA, Lagos.
I’m not very familiar with the LCDA, but I believe it is largely a riverine community, if I’m not mistaken. Regardless, this is really commendable.
I’m happy that, with the current push for local government autonomy, we are seeing more local governments taking ownership of their development.
Lagos local governments have always worked, but because the past state governments were often so active that it was difficult to tell which projects belonged to the state and which belonged to the local governments.
I love the idea of local governments having their own identity, projects and online presence.
Governance should start from the grassroots.
I encourage all local government chairmen and chairwomen across Nigeria to have an active online presence.
Post your projects and scorecards regularly.
Let your constituents see what you are doing and have a way to communicate with you.
Local governments have a lot they can do.
While the state government handles major roads, bridges, flyovers and other large infrastructure, local governments should take responsibility for inner roads, drainage, sanitation, environmental management and primary healthcare centres.
Across Nigeria, most state governments and the FCT often build a major road and leave the surrounding inner roads in terrible condition.
This is where local governments must step in.
I also think local governments should be made more competitive.
We could have “Best Local Government” awards every six months or annually, recognising the councils doing exceptional work.
The best-performing councils could even receive additional Federal and state support as an incentive.
I commend the Lagos local government chairmen and chairwomen who are working and maintaining an online presence.
Those who are not doing enough should please sit up.
And by the way, @Etiosalga@etiosaeast , we are waiting for your scorecard too! As one of the most prominent local governments in Lagos, we want to see what you have been doing, particularly regarding inner roads, drainage, sanitation and other infrastructure.😁
Making an environment more liveable is not impossible.
With dedication, proper funding which is already available and accountability, local governments can transform communities.
Let every level of government do its part.
God bless Lagos and our motherland Nigeria. 🇳🇬🙏🏾
