Motaz Azaiza has said something that deserves far more attention.

In a recent interview, the prominent Gaza photojournalist said media campaigns were “never spontaneous” and described a group called SMART as belonging to Hamas, claiming “every journalist in Gaza” was in it.

That raises serious questions about how Gaza’s media ecosystem operated, how information was shared, and who helped shape the images seen around the world.

Helmi Mohammed Helmi al-Faqawi was just the social media manager for Palestine Today TV, according to CPJ, IFJ, UNESCO, Haaretz, @NBCNews , and The Guardian.

Not only is Palestine Today TV affiliated with Palestinian Islamic Jihad, but the PIJ Al-Quds Brigades announced in June that he was a deputy platoon leader in the Khan Yunis Brigade's Central Military Media Unit.

You were told that Gazan journalists were being deliberately targeted. Databases like the one created by the Committee to Protect Journalists were used as evidence.

The film argues that Israel’s targeting systems and calculations of expected civilian casualties reveal deliberate mass killing. But assessing expected civilian harm before a strike is part of the proportionality analysis international humanitarian law requires. Something that literally proves the opposite.

The IDF has rejected the film’s allegations. Yet the film's anonymous testimony is already being treated by some critics as a definitive indictment.

Before the broader public has even seen the film, the verdict was already written.

So here’s the question: Do the politicians, artists, and celebrities fundraising for, donating to, or defending UNRWA not know how deeply Hamas is embedded in the agency?

For more than a decade, @macklemore has been accused of performative activism, and profiting off of it.

In 2012, he released “Same Love.” The song became a marriage-equality anthem, but it also drew criticism over a straight, white rapper receiving enormous praise and publicity for advocating for gay rights while queer artists struggled for the same platform.

In 2014, he beat Kendrick Lamar for Best Rap Album at the Grammys. He texted @kendricklamar afterward: “You got robbed.” Then he screenshotted the text and posted it to Instagram. Once again, the criticism was the same: performative.

Fast-forward to 2026.
Macklemore walks onto one of the biggest stages in America and shouts:
“Free Palestine.”

No context, no history, and no skin in the game. But this time, the performance itself is presented as bravery.

The same pattern that used to get mocked as white saviorism is now being celebrated as courage. That’s exactly why Macklemore is perfect for the pro-Palestinian movement.

Pro-Palestinian activism isn’t about history, context, debate, common ground, or even the betterment of Palestinians. It’s about two words and catchy slogans, regardless of what they mean.

And whoever can scream them the loudest to the biggest crowd becomes the leader of the pack.
The savior.
