The Battle began with French Brigades attacking in columns.

They skirmished against the 5/60th & 95th Rifles before coming on. They also suffered from 'Shrapnel Shells' a relatively new but deadly invention. Then British Volley fire drove them back off the ridges.

#OnThisDay 24 Jan 1812 Major General Robert Craufurd’s funeral at the Breach of Ciudad Rodrigo.

On 23 Jan General Craufurd, died of wounds from leading his troops in storming Ciudad Rodrigo.

The coffin was borne by 6 warrant officers, of the Light Division.

Yesterday, 31 May, I posted on the anniversary of London’s 1st Zeppelin raid in 1915. In this artwork depicting a fire started by an incendiary bomb in Nevill Rd, Stoke Newington (by @hookchrista), Alfred West is led away from his home at No. 27 with burns to his face. 1/2
