Some thoughts on Risa after watched EP1 THE SCAMMER GAMES

What impressed me most about Risa is not that she became a scammer, but the journey that led her to make that choice.
5 years ago, when she was still a schoolgirl, Risa watched her father take someone else's money with eyes filled with worry, unease, and fear. She knew it was wrong. Back then, Risa was still a child who believed in right and wrong, who believed that if you were a good person, everything would eventually work out.
But life did not treat her that way.
Her father disappeared without an explanation, leaving behind a massive debt. Risa struggled just to stay in school while enduring ridicule, bullying, and injustices she never deserved. As she grew older, she came to realize that those in weaker positions are often the ones forced to bear the consequences, regardless of whether they are right or wrong. Those experiences forced Risa to become stronger. She had to learn how to protect herself and build walls around her just to survive in a world that had never been kind to her. That is why the moment Risa takes her teacher's money feels like such a powerful callback to that memory from years ago. The difference is that this time, there is no panic or fear on her face. Instead, there is a heartbreaking sense of familiarity. There are things we once believed we would never do, yet life keeps pushing us, wearing us down, and leading us toward paths we never wanted to take.

P' Kao portrayed that transformation with remarkable subtlety. She shows us a Risa who gradually loses the innocence of her youth, worn down little by little by the harsh realities of life. The look in Risa's eyes as a young girl and the look in her eyes in the present day tell two entirely different stories. One still believes in fairness and justice; the other is simply trying to survive. And perhaps that is what makes Risa such a heartbreaking character. Deep down, she is still a good person. Life simply never gave her the chance to live an easy one.
P' Kao is truly incredible.
