The former editors/writers at HoosPlace, com: Honest, unfiltered commentary and analysis on UVA athletics. Hoos through-and-through repping the Orange and Blue.
@Mikeysurf@HOOriKANE@ADWilliamsUVA@BooCorrigan And just because each school is entitled to a $1.5mm cancellation fee doesn't mean the organizer will pay up. Their company doesn't exactly scream "big success".
If I had to read between the lines, guess is ticket / travel package sales were anemic, and the organizer was fixing to take a bath. 90 days out would be the time to pull the plug.
Expecting UVA & NCSU fan bases to travel to Brazil was always a gamble. And no appeal to locals.
@Mikeysurf@HOOriKANE Big-$ participation payouts offered is why @ADWilliamsUVA and @BooCorrigan had to take the call.
But hope UVA & State did their own independent business case analyses on the event's financial feasibility. Athlete's Advantage was/isn't established as credible on their word alone.
Virginia lands a top international big man commit in the class of โ27, landing Mahamadou Landoure out of the NBA Academy
The former Real Madrid product stands at 6โ10, 260 lbs and just turned 17 years old in May. Will be playing for Bridgetown Academy next season
@chjacob21@EmbracePaceUVA The @alumni.virginia.edu email accounts are going away at the end of June. They said costs from Google (who host the service) have gotten too high for the U to carry all alumni for free. They've been warning us it was coming for months now.
@RoccoMiller8 How dare I be re-traumatized with reference to that 2012 Coliseum abomination.
That said, excited to play ODU (my other alma mater) again. I long assumed the admin just didn't want to schedule against Jeff Jones.
Just spoke to an old friend in the UVA athletic department (not lacrosse focused).
His direct quote: โThis is a Millon backed Cassesse coupโ
It seems like some of this has already broken contain, but figure itโs worth repeating.

@Diablo89122@RondaChollock@TerenceFoy@UVAMensLax Then I'm sure one of those peer institutions, maybe many of them, are beating down his door this week to hire him away!
Whether or not anyone else respectable will touch him this off-season will be the most telling aspect of all.
@DNeckel19 Ibe is not playing as much as Anya nor outplaying Barksdale. When Grunloh sits, more likely we'll go "small" (i.e. - 2x PF) like the 2014-16 years when Tobey would sit and the de facto center would be someone like Atkins or Gill. Ibe likely needs a year.

The Cavaliers are once again atop college tennis for a seventh national championship!
The final tally of this yearโs Commonwealth Clash:
Virginia 16
Virginia Tech 6
This is the largest margin of victory by either program in Clash history!
This yearโs graduating class finished 58-29 against VT, doubling them up & sweeping all 4 Clashes.

Talked with Ryan Odom at ACC meetings about #UVA's roster retention, offseason signings and beyond ambitious nonconference schedule, which includes a game in D.C., and a contest against Odom's former Five-Star Camp roomie.

College basketball rosters keep getting more expensive. Donors keep giving, knowing they wonโt see a direct financial return.
Why?
I talked to donors and coaches about NIL motivation, ROI, & what programs are really selling.

@HeatMis46503672 Inaccurate to phrase it as "couldn't get on the floor". Took a redshirt year.; not public why, may never be, between him & his coach. Maybe health, maybe personal. But he started and played 25 mpg on a winning team the year prior, in VCU's/Odom's league no less. I'm not worried.
Darion Atkins type. Aggressive on the glass, both ends, strong finisher at the rim, competent rim protector. A bit undersized as a PF/C but makes up for it with hustle and IQ. Plus passer. Not a scorer outside the paint but we'll surround him with shooters to make spacing work.
Saint Louis transfer forward Kalu Anya has committed to Virginia, his agent CJ Ward of @LIFTSPORTSMNGMT told @On3.
The 6-8 senior redshirted this season, but averaged 6.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game the year prior, leading SLU in rebounding.

@orankin1@DNeckel19 Green for proven collegiate contributors, yellow for unproven backups in competition for rotational minutes, red for expected scout-teamers.

@hansplanda If we're talking just shooting/spacing, that's no worse than last year with Jacari (43%), Malik (35%), and Hall (32%).
And on Harmon, note he had an ice cold start as he adjusted from JuCo to D-1, but then shot 39% in conference play on heavy usage (8 3PA/gm).
@hansplanda Using last year's season 3P% stats:
- Chance Mallory 35%
- Jurian Dixon 38%
- Christian Harmon 35%
- Sam Lewis 40%
- Thijs de Ridder 36%
- Johann Grunloh 35%
Maybe no Jacari-level snipers but all guys defenses have to honor.
