Let’s talk about Alex Iwobi.

For years, he’s been introduced as Jay-Jay Okocha’s nephew. But it’s about time we start calling Okocha Iwobi’s uncle.

Iwobi has delivered a masterclass at this tournament. The attackers will rightly get their plaudits, but he has arguably been the player of the tournament so far. Before the game against Algeria, he had already completed 46 line-breaking passes, second only to Idrissa Gueye.

Against Algeria, he was everywhere: creating chances, pressing, spraying long balls, and keeping everything ticking. The passes to Akor and Osimhen? Ridiculous.

The Super Eagles are now in the semi-finals. Iwobi has 94 caps and is closing in on a century. If Nigeria go on to win this tournament, there will be some uncomfortable conversations about where he ranks among Nigeria’s all-time greats.

To those who ridiculed him over the years, stay on that side.

For now, let’s celebrate the player that is Alexander Iwobi.
