To be seen.
To be adored.
To be worshiped.
* * *
We call ourselves human,
but we crave the altar.
* * *
We want to be loved
the way men love their gods.
I know the cold math of hunger
the lightheadedness,
the hollow sickness,
the way a simple meal becomes a luxury.
* * *
But no one warns you about the other side.
* * *
The sadness that makes you eat
until your lungs have no room for air,
just because fullness is the only thing
that forces you to sleep.
* * *
When the taste on your tongue
is the solitary spark of color in a grey day—
as if nothing else around you is real.
* * *
Then comes the quiet betrayal of the body:
the jaw that won't stop moving,
the hands that keep reaching.
* * *
Your only source of warmth.
Your secret sin.
Your evidence of lack.
Honestly, I didn’t know raving could feel this different under daylight until Afters at V6 happened.
There was something almost surreal about seeing ravers without the cloak of night. No darkness to soften the edges, no strobe lights to obscure the faces. Just bodies, sweat, sunlight and completely unfiltered dancing. People moving with so much vim and vigour, surrendering themselves to the music as though the afternoon had somehow suspended every rule about how a body is supposed to behave.
And truthfully? I loved the Afters experience even more than the nighttime festival.
I felt lighter there, more relaxed, more comfortable. Less consumed by that euphoric haze that sometimes comes with the night, and more present in the simple pleasure of being surrounded by good music and wonderful selectors.
I still remember @KingNonsoDuke and @soundsoface going aura for aura, digging deep into their discographies and pulling the room along with them. Steps wan cry.
@DOGHOUSETVV B2B @Nasty__Mane were another kind of madness, pumping enough hormones into the crowd to make you leap onto a stranger and rock the absolute shit out of them.
And then came my first @AlliHahmmed set. My auditory nerves were held hostage so completely that I think I fell in love at first sight & listen. Bruuuv!
@celebritydjkiss even came out of hiatus to give us that soul-wrecking bite of Ajayi, and by that point, leaving felt almost offensive.
And I got a picture with my fine girl crush Ladï. Hiding her from you vultures🫸🏿.
I was way too ecstatic to leave when I eventually did.
Maybe that is what I loved most about the Afters. It wasn’t simply an extension of the festival. It felt like the rave had shed its nighttime costume and revealed something more intimate underneath.
Pace yourself, but whatever you do, don’t leave V7 without experiencing the Afters.
You’ll understand when you get there.

It has never given me peace of mind.
