Interior Live Oak:
A widespread evergreen oak of California and Baja California, interior live oak (Q. wislizeni) is commonly found from the Sierra Nevada foothills to Baja. Its small, leathery leaves (1–2 inches) are glossy on both sides— an adaptation to hot, dry environments.
California Scrub Oak:
#OOTW 7, California scrub oak (Q. berberidifolia), is an evergreen white oak shrub endemic to CA and Northern Baja. These fire-adapted oaks thrive on dry, nutrient-poor soils and chaparral. It has relatively small, flat, ¾ - 1 inch leaves.

Shreve oak (Quercus parvula var. shrevei) is an evergreen oak typically found on north-facing slopes from Santa Cruz Island off the Santa Barbara coast northward to Mendocino County. Shreve oak has dark green, tapered leaves measuring 2–5 cm, with prominent veins.

#OOTW five! Coast live oak (Q. agrifolia) is endemic to Western California, and thrives on the coast’s salty air. It has 1-2.5 inch leaves, which are spiny-toothed and cupped. Its leaves are also identifiable by the fuzz that is on the base of the lateral veins on the undersides.
