As one of Horizons' editors, it goes without saying that I'll be subjective when talking about my magazine's advantages.

However, one can hardly deny that we've had unmatched lineups of authors in our issues over the years.

Our 31st edition (Summer 2025) is no different:

This landmark issue of Horizons brings together a stellar lineup of contributors: sitting and former European heads of government, alongside world-renowned intellectuals from Europe, the United States, Russia, China, and Turkey.

After a long and substantial effort to gather everything we needed to make this happen, we're finally releasing the Summer 2025 issue of Horizons, with the future of #Europe as its central theme.

The EU 🇪🇺 today feels like a far cry from its prime, with many of the bloc’s economies stagnating, their security in jeopardy, infrastructure decaying, and geopolitical capacity receding. Mired in confusion of their own, few Western European states today serve as role models for anyone, standing in stark contrast to comparatively smaller but increasingly promising economies of the Intermarium. Yet with 27 layers of problems plaguing the Brussels-led bloc, there are at least as many known prescriptions for salvaging the Union and restoring its former glory.

At @Horizons_CIRSD, we’ve ensured these and other voices from the old continent are fairly represented in our pages. In this edition, I’m proud to have featured prominent policymakers and thought leaders like @PM_ViktorOrban, Jeffrey D. Sachs, @ediramaal, @jattali, Kostas Karamanlis, Slavoj Žižek, @EgemenBagis, and many many others...

When Aldous Huxley first invoked the term “brave new world” he decried a dystopian future defined by rigid hierarchies of intelligence, a society engineered by science and dominated by efficiency, control, and detachment. Today, his foreboding vision seems both distant and eerily proximate. His “World State” may be hard to imagine in today’s world of political fragmentation, but the technological means of achieving such a construct is no longer the stuff of speculative fiction. It exists predominantly in the hands of state authorities and a handful of high-tech behemoths.

Yet it is not the machines themselves that endanger us, but the flawed human instincts guiding their creation: the relentless drive for profit, optimization, and control. Artificial intelligence—hailed as a triumph of ingenuity—has fused with geopolitical rivalry, military ambition, and regulatory contestation, chiefly between the United States and China.

This thirtieth edition of Horizons explores how AI, rather than pacifying conflict, may intensify it—making war more efficient and opaque. The real threat lies not in superintelligent machines, but in our own unchecked impulses.

But if the crisis is man-made, so too is the possibility of redemption—through decentralization, ethical imagination, and purposeful governance. As we shape our futures and the technologies enabling it, we must be conscious of what we embed within them. If it is to reflect us, let it reflect not our worst instincts, but our highest ideals—not only logic, but love.
