A Somali MP who has been highlighting the deep corruption and illegitimacy of the current ruling regime (including mapping links back to the Minnesota Somali fraud that was uncovered 6 months ago) accuses Turkey of being responsible for "the massacre, urban warfare, and mass displacement that exploded in Mogadishu on the evening of June 3."
Could Somalia become ground zero for a new proxy war fought between Turkey and Israel?
Somalia has entered a dangerous and uncertain political moment following the end of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s constitutional term on 15 May. The President argues that constitutional amendments extended the mandate of federal institutions to five years, while many opposition groups and other stakeholders do not accept this interpretation.
The country has unfortunately entered uncharted territory and there is urgent need for dialogue, restraint, and compromise in order to avoid instability or confrontation.
In the spirit of supporting a peaceful Somali-led solution, I have compiled the following 10 points proposal for consideration:
1. The Federal Government and opposition stakeholders should agree on the appointment of an independent Prime Minister who will not participate in the next presidential election.
3. The Prime Minister should form an inclusive government tasked with managing state affairs and preparing the country for elections through broad political consultation and consensus.
4. An independent electoral committee should be established in agreement with all major stakeholders in order to prepare for voter registration and nationwide elections.
5. Somalia should move toward direct elections based on one person, one vote, with the necessary political, legal, and security preparations agreed collectively.
6. A mutually agreed electoral timetable should be established and implemented transparently.
7. Following parliamentary elections, a new Federal Parliament should elect the President in accordance with the constitutional process.
8. The newly elected institutions should continue work on completing and finalizing the constitution through broad national consultation and consensus.
9. All sides should avoid unilateral actions, inflammatory rhetoric, or any steps that could increase tensions or undermine national stability.
10. Somalia’s friends and international partners should encourage dialogue, compromise, constitutional order, and a peaceful Somali-owned political settlement.
Somalia has made important progress over the past two decades despite enormous challenges. This progress must be protected through wisdom, compromise, and inclusive politics.
@HassanSMohamud@M_Farmaajo@HESaidADeni@HESharifShAhmed@RTErdogan@HakanFidan
The Turkish government’s decision to publicly reaffirm support for @HassanSMohamud immediately after the expiration of his constitutional mandate, at a moment when Somalia faces a contested political transition and no agreed electoral framework, sends a deeply troubling political signal.
Somalis have long valued the historic relationship with Türkiye, built on solidarity and mutual respect. That relationship must remain anchored in support for the Somali people, constitutional governance, and inclusive political consensus, not personalized alignment with a single political figure during a fragile and contested transition.
Somalia’s stability cannot be sustained through external endorsement of expired mandates or concentration of power. Durable peace and stability require legitimacy, broad political agreement, accountable institutions, and public trust.
Breaking News: Heavy Clashes Reported in Baydhabo Amid Ongoing Elections
Serious fighting has erupted in the Hanaan/Barwaaqo area on the northern outskirts of Baydhabo, according to multiple local sources and residents in the area.
The clashes are reportedly taking place between forces associated with the former Darawiish units of South West State and Somali Federal Government forces, particularly members of the Haramcad and Gor-Gor units stationed around the city.
Eyewitnesses near the conflict zone stated that Federal Government troops were forced to withdraw from some positions following intense exchanges of gunfire, while fighting continues across several locations on the outskirts of Baydhabo.
Residents across nearby neighborhoods reported hearing sustained heavy gunfire, with growing concern and panic among civilians as the confrontation unfolds close to populated residential areas.
The latest confrontation is being described as the second major offensive carried out by forces loyal to the former South West administration led by Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen following recent political tensions and changes within the regional administration.
The violence comes at a particularly sensitive moment, coinciding with local council and parliamentary electoral processes that took place in Baydhabo earlier today. Vote counting is reportedly still ongoing.
Initial reports suggest that casualties may have been sustained by both sides involved in the fighting, although the exact figures remain unconfirmed as the situation continues to develop.
Security conditions in and around Baydhabo remain tense, with further updates expected as more information becomes available.

Mr. Kani Torun, Member of Parliament and former Turkish Ambassador to Somalia, has devoted tremendous effort to Somalia over many years. His statements clearly demonstrate his commitment to democracy, and I fully agree with him. Somalia’s path to recovery lies in democracy, and that begins with the principle of “one person, one vote.”
In Somalia 🇸🇴, an anti-government movement and protests were ongoing today, but security forces suppressed them by shooting at protesters. One person has been killed and many injured. This is the reality most Africans face, watch the useless African Union remain silent.
