Behind the Wire: Cambodian Families Watch Their Homes Slip Away
Banteay Meanchey β Prey Chan village residents in O' Bei Choan commune reported being forced to leave their homes and belongings without any warning.
It was a typical day for them until the Thai armed forces came and chased them away from their houses, leaving them no time to pack their essentials. Later, they were allowed 20 minutes to grab their stuff quickly.
At least six families in this village have been forced to live under the tents set up near the barbed fence, unable to leave their houses behind.
Thai soldiers have encroached at least 200 metres into Cambodian territory, erecting barbed wire fences and cutting off six Cambodian families from their homes in Prey Chan village, O Beichoan commune, Ou Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province.
Out of respect for the ceasefire and to ensure the safety of local citizens, Cambodian forces have not responded with violence, as they await instructions from the national level, according to provincial governor Oum Reatrey.
Michael B. Barry - American news correspondent based at the White House:
βCambodiaβs choice to pursue peace over warβdespite immense challengesβspeaks volumes about its leadership and commitment to progress. We discussed the nationβs recovery, U.S. relations, the Thai border ceasefire, and the call to nominate President Donald J. Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.β
A powerful conversation Iβm proud to share. π°ππΊπΈ
