Please take two mins to watch this video from the TUC depicting how political decisions since 2010 have all but destroyed our once-great NHS, as waiting lists have soared from 4 to 7.5 million. It’s heartbreaking 😔
In 44 yrs since I first voted, 31 yrs has been a Tory govt where all that we, the population, owned (nationalised) has been sold...electricity production & distribution, phone networks, rail networks, gas distribution, water...what have I missed? Let's do a list together
Headline below is from Telegraph!
1/ Short 🧵 on lies, damned lies, & statistics
I've seen some rather misleading use of statistics on the BBC / Sky today, its not clear whether they dont understand the differences, or they are trying to mislead
Please read all & share / RT
We just got this letter from the junior doctors at our Trust thanking consultants and SAS doctors for supporting the strike. I trust they don’t mind it being shared, the tone is perfect. As stated, we are one profession and need to challenge the government to act urgently.
the NHS has been in decline since 2010 because successive govts have failed to heed the warning signs of deteriorating performance https://t.co/0Lz7uUKfXf
The argument that’s often made for why we need an alternative model to the NHS or radical reform is that the NHS is unsustainable. The latest to make the argument is Sajid Javid. But *is* the NHS unsustainable? A Friday🧵
@GordonBrown is so on point!Beware the superficial arguments for commodified healthcare. The great #NHS principles, when delivered with competence & intelligence cannot be bettered! @keepnhspublic @BMAScotland @TheBMA https://t.co/N4fUU4O7t8
📚 Little Libraries are now up and running on NICU and TC!! Swipe to see our ‘Baby’s First Library Cards’ ♥️
Reading in NICU can feel a bit strange at first but it has so many fantastic benefits for your baby. It’s also a great way for siblings and grandparents to get involved.
Since I listed the reasons why a parallel private system is so damaging to publicly provided & delivered healthcare, & again at @cambridgeunion people have asked about insurance based healthcare systems; here are the many reasons why this isn’t a sensible suggestion for the UK:
2 yrs ago today,
my daughter had open heart surgery.
She was 5.
As a paediatrician, I felt helpless
As a mum, I was terrified.
One thing happened that day, one thing the anaesthetic team did that I will never forget... 👇🧵
Women fill the majority of workforce caring roles like nurses, social care & carers
Women with children often can’t afford to work because childcare is so unaffordable
One solution to the workforce issue?
Sort. Out. Affordable. Childcare
Every six months my brain explodes 🤯trying to sort a new rota out around
- Childcare for 2 kids in different childcare settings
- Husbands busy full time job
- A 4 hour daily commute
- Enough training opportunities
There HAS to be a better way
Things that Schools should teach: 🧠
• Being wrong is not a bad thing.
• It's Okay to question what you have been taught.
• Grades aren't as valuable as skills.
• Understanding is more important than memorization.
• Making mistakes is Okay. Learn from your mistakes.
When you are struggling for a GP appointment - we all are
It is worth considering that in the UK we spend more of hair & beauty treatments than we do on General Practice provision
1.4million appts/day provided in General Practice
£163/person/year - ave 7 appts each
