The real national disgrace is the rotten system that keeps producing it — and the politicians who protect it.

We are done with excuses, press releases, and performative compassion.

In Scotland, 1.06 million people — roughly 1 in 5 — are living in conditions the UN defines as homelessness.
AND Scotland pretends ~1.02 million are not homeless.

This disgraceful stance by Scottish government vomits denial at every breath.

Forget the normalised lexicon. This was never an emergency, a crisis, or a catastrophe.

It is — and always has been — a systemic, calamitous betrayal, engineered deliberately and carried out in plain sight.

🟥Thousands of Council Homes Sitting Empty

While Women and Children Sleep in Fear

Scotland is in a housing calamity, has been for some time. But here’s the part 'suits' do not want to discuss. They prefer smoke and mirrors distraction.

Thousands of council‑owned homes across Scotland are lying unoccupied right now.

Not private homes. Not second homes.

Not speculative investment stock.

Council homes — public assets — sitting empty during a homelessness calamity.

But guess what, councils refrain from publishing how many.

At the same time, Scotland has thousands of women and children in temporary accommodation, placed in mixed hotels, unsafe hostels, and B&Bs along with men, not all dangerous, but many are.

ask yourself would you like your women folk to live in such an environment? would you like your children to be there as well?

The First Minister feeling the pressure @scotgovfm says Scotland must “safeguard women from men’s violence.” So why are women and children being placed back into danger while council homes sit unused?

🟥 What’s stopping these homes being used?

Councils cite:

repairs backlog slow void turnaround

lack of tradespeople

homes held for demolition

internal bureaucracy

These are management failures, not supply shortages.

🟥The simple principle

Women and children many fleeing violence, should be housed first — in permanent council owned homes.

After that, men should be housed in their own homes, not in mixed hotels with vulnerable families.

Scotland has the stock. Scotland has the need.

What the Scotland leaders lack is urgency and compassion. What they have for now is impunity.

🟥The public deserves answers

We are asking every council and the Scottish Government:

How many council‑owned homes are empty right now?

How long have they been empty?

How many could be recommissioned now, within 3, 6, 9 or 12 months?

Why are women and children still in danger when these homes exist?

Scotland cannot claim equality while women and children are warehoused in fear.

Scotland can not claim to stand head and shoulders above other nations for cutting edge safeguarding and rights, when the truth tells another story.

End the political choice that allows this woeful calamity to continue.

Bring the council owned homes back into commission

House women and children first.

Women vote. Women vote at slightly higher rates than men.
But vulnerable women — the ones displaced, in crisis, in unsafe accommodation — often don’t.

And that silence is exactly why they’re politically safe to ignore.

You are very much welcome Laura. It was nice to hear about the Scottish Tenants Organisation. I have spoken to Mr Iain a few times when communicating with Mr James in Glasgow. I think even though it is difficult you are meeting officials. Here it is difficult to get response from any bit of government - Local, state and federal. But we live in hope. We take direction from God daily. I feel you will get government yourside to help before we see help here.

I thought to mention that landlords here regularly break the law insisting on upfront payment of two years and agency fees when law says only one year.
Almost every family we help is faced with this dilema. Sometimes we can agree better when Doors Academy negotiates directly with agent and sometimes owner.

Recently economy getting worse has actually helped us as landlord needs money, everyone goes hungry if they get no rent monies 🙂 We are finding it difficult to sustain large houses with many bedrooms so suggested to agents with many smaller properties we will rent them if they reduce prices. So for now it is better for a single woman or maybe two to find accommodation. It might be way we go along.

We help where we can women, women with children, families and men on own. Mr James tells me while exchange rate is way it is the sterling goes much further haha.

By God's grace we will be helping a young man find work and we pay for a self contained room near his work. I can not share his name as he is embarrased. He was sleeping outside shop and police took him to prison. Now he released and we meet him soon. Sleep on street here and you will be taken away to place unfit for pigs.

I am soon to lose battery will need to recharge but there is no light.

AWESOME: Does these mean house-deprived homeless people can enjoy the facilities as well? Ill health finds us all, some quicker than others.

STANDARDS VARY

I heard some airlines were replacing inhouse magazines with pyjamas, especially for long haul flights; chose wrong airline? I don't know, maybe the new arrangement is not fully operational right now.

Life is a funny old game.

I remember maybe forty years ago, I bought a sleeper cabin for my wife and small children on British rail train from London to Aberdeen. On entering the train I was told there was no sleeper cabin left, they were all booked.

'But I reserved a cabin' said I
'Well sorry there are none left' said the BR rep
'But where will my wife and small children sleep on this late night long haul train journey?' Said I with anger growing.
'Well there are no cabins left, so they will have to sleep as best they can in the corridor (all seats taken) ' said the BR rep
'But I reserved and paid for at great cost, a cabin and I want a cabin' said I with gritted teeth
'Well, read the small print sir, you pay for the carriage journey, not seats or cabins' said the BR rep, indignantly
'Which hospital would you like to be carried to you d**k? said I
'Dont hit me sir, here are four pairs of pajama's various sizes, with British rail's compliments - said he.

The First Minister talks about violence against women but avoids the state’s own violence against homeless women.

He talks about violence against women but avoids the ceasless reality of women warehoused in unsafe mixed‑sex hostels, hotels and shelters where the danger is built into the placement itself.

Mr Swinney your behaviour as an 'arms length' - “listener” is the problem. You position yourself as the listener, not the actor, as if listening to survivors is leadership, while the government’s own policies ignore so many voices, and continue to expose homeless women to daily risk.

Violence against women includes the way homeless women are placed in mixed‑sex accommodation with no security, no privacy and no safety.

Men should challenge sexism, yes — but the government must fix the danger it creates. Silence on this issue leaves too many women at risk.

I wasn’t trying to make a big case. I was homeless during her time in power, she ignored us, and while I wish no harm to anyone — as Maclean said from the dock — I’m not invested in her saga.
I now serve house‑deprived homeless adults, so that experience still matters to me. The glasses just caught my eye.
