Managed migration to Universal Credit will begin in Northern Ireland on 17th April with around 500 migration notices being sent out in Andersonstown and Enniskillen
How would claiming UC as a disabled person work if the WCA is scrapped? Anyone entitled to UC and getting any rate of PIP would be entitled to the UC Health Element (set at same rate as LCWRA Element). This would mean they only have the PIP assessment but not clear how their...
@TPanesh Interesting! We've looked through the Budget documents and can't see any info on how or when they'll make the change - or who exactly will benefit
Big changes to the Childcare Costs Element of Universal Credit #Budget2023 - big increase to the maximums which can be paid (maximums haven't been increased for years before this) and costs will be paid up front for parents who want to work - we'll be looking for more info on how
The Administrative Earnings Threshold will be increased again #Budget2023 - this means that more working people will be moved into the Intensive Work Search group of UC and be expected to look for work (and sanctioned if they fail to do so)
Additionally, we learnt that of the 49 Tax Credit-only claimants who didn't make a claim for UC: 12% were just on Working Tax Credit, 45% were just on Child Tax Credit, 43% were on both. Meaning 88% of them are responsible for children. Full response here- https://t.co/MfM36h1RSG
NEW FOI! The DWP have responded to our FOI asking for more info on the report about first 499 claimants to receive migration notices. They confirmed that 51% of those who claimed UC were entitled to a Transitional Element with a breakdown of amounts below -

We're expecting entitlement to Bereavement Benefits to be extended to cohabiting couples with children soon - but a recent Upper Tribunal decision suggests that this will not be extended to couples without children who are not legally married / in a civil partnership
@meshuganater @HAYLESBEN That will depend on what they've agreed with their Work Coach in their 'claimant commitment' - but possibly. They'll want to try and make sure whatever's in their claimant commitment is manageable around the work they're already doing and any caring commitments etc
The #universalcredit Administrative Earnings Threshold is increasing today - meaning claimants in the All-Work Requirements group who are earning less than 15 hours per week at National Living Wage will be in the 'Intensive Work Search Regime' and expected to look for more work
If they are part of a couple and their combined earnings are above 24 hours per week at National Living Wage, they will be in 'Light Tough Regime' and will not need to be in as close contact with their Work Coach
The Regulations that bring in the increase to the Administrative Earnings Threshold (AET) on 30th Jan clarify that claimants receiving Transitional Elements will have their TE terminated if their earnings fall below the AET that applied on the first day of their claim
The judges acknowledge that the claimants who brought this challenge faced financial difficulty during this time but felt that as the main purpose of the £20-uplift was to support new benefit claimants, there was no legal requirement to extend it to legacy benefits
The Court of Appeal have rejected the legal challenge to the DWP's decision not to extend the £20 uplift to 'legacy' benefits claimants during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic
...we expect the DWP will make their specific plans known before issuing notices, but focus should be on Tax Credit only claimants for the time being. These claimants are more likely to be confident making online claims but should still seek advice about maximising their income
The DWP have released information about the first 499 households to receive migration notices and what they have learnt. This is an incredibly small sample size but some important insights -
4 - in 2023/24, the managed migration process will focus on Tax Credit only claimants and the DWP will be looking to scale this early 2023/24. This will probably mean claimants in new areas will start to receive migration notices before summer...
