⏳ The deadline is approaching to apply to become a member of the first Stirling Visitor Levy Advisory Forum. Applications must be submitted by midnight Sunday 12 April.
This is an exciting opportunity to shape how we invest in and grow Stirling’s vital tourism economy.
The Forum will play a central role in ensuring transparency, collaboration and the effective delivery of the Stirling Visitor Levy Scheme.
Approved by Stirling Council in December 2025, the scheme will introduce a 3% levy on all paid overnight visitor accommodation stays within the council area. It will apply to bookings made from 1 January 2027 for stays on or after 14 June 2027.
All positions are voluntary and non-executive, with expenses covered. Membership will be reviewed regularly to ensure the Forum remains representative and effective.
Last week, Paul Mooney was appointed as the first Chair of the Stirling Visitor Levy Advisory Forum following a recruitment process.
Paul is currently Area General Manager for Apex Hotels, which includes responsibility for managing the Apex Dunblane Hydro Hotel, and he has a wealth of experience in the Scottish tourism sector spanning 20 years.
As Chair, Paul will provide independent, transparent, and effective leadership to the Stirling Visitor Levy Advisory Forum.
Paul is assisting council officers in appointing members of the Visitor Levy Forum.
He said: “It’s crucial that we secure a broad range of views from businesses, tourism operators and communities through the forum so that the levy is implemented fairly and delivers benefits across the Stirling area.
“I look forward to helping create a balanced and inclusive forum and would encourage anyone who is interested in being part of the forum to apply before the deadline of 12 April.”
To apply, please submit a CV and covering letter (maximum 400 words) to [email protected]
Application deadline: Sunday 12 April 2026
More information about the role can be found at: https://t.co/BzHa74S3rd
Further information for accommodation providers is now available to view on the Visitor Levy section of the Stirling Council website. Additional information will be added throughout the implementation process.
♻️⌛️ Time is running out for Stirling residents to apply for their 2026/27 annual Garden Waste Recycling Permit before this year's service starts on 13 April 2026.
Any permit orders after Friday 28 March are not guaranteed to arrive before Monday 13 April when the new permits come into effect for the coming year.
The permit allows residents to have garden waste collected in the same bin as their food waste every two weeks. Those who do not purchase a permit will still have food waste collected in the brown bin, for free, every two weeks.
More than 19,000 were purchased last year, and details of how to register and pay for the permit are available on our website: https://t.co/DZ2QvLZc1W
Councillors confirmed at this year’s budget-setting meeting that the permit will rise by £8 to £60. The price of a permit for Stirling Council residents remains in line with many other local authorities in Scotland, averaging at £2.30 per uplift.
Some households, including those in receipt of a council tax reduction, will receive the permit for free as part of a concession scheme. The Council will send out these permits to anyone eligible by 13 April 2026.

⚠️ Motorists across Stirling have been urged to be alert to fake QR codes being placed on car park ticket machines.
Stirling Council is aware of reports that motorists in the area have scanned a QR code and been taken to a website that has charged varying excessive fees for parking, a scam that has been targeting drivers across the country.
No QR code should be scanned for any of Stirling Council’s official parking related apps. Anyone who sees a QR code in a Stirling Council car park can report it to be removed via the Council website: https://t.co/bxXlt9CluW or by calling 01786 404040.
Parking machines in Stirling take payment via card, coin, contactless or the RingGo app which can be downloaded via the Apple or Android Store.
The council's only online provider, RingGo, will never ask drivers to scan a QR code to pay for parking. Additional information on protecting yourself from scams is available via their website: https://t.co/o6w0LW2wAy
Anyone who has used a QR code at a Council owned car park is encouraged to contact their bank, report it to Police Scotland on 101 and report to Trading Standards via Advice Direct Scotland on 0808 164 6000.
✅ A package of major investments, including an additional £3 million spend to improve the area’s roads and footpaths, feature in Stirling Council’s 2026-27 budget that was approved today (26 Feb).
At a meeting of council today, councillors agreed the revenue and capital budget for the next financial year, with decisions informed by the views of residents who took part in the Big Conversation survey.
A £10.7 million shortfall in the £328.63 million revenue budget was bridged by efficiency (£4.79 million) and policy (£668,000) savings totalling £5.46 million, along with an increase in charges to 5% (£175,000).
The remainder will be made up by an 8.75% increase in council tax, which will also provide additional support for the council’s revenue budget which funds the day-to-day running of vital services, from schools and nurseries to libraries and community centres.
Some of the new revenue spending commitments include £300,000 for grass cutting and community pride restoration projects, £120,000 for a law centre and for veterans support, £120,000 for the maintenance of civic and community assets, £100,000 for an eastern villages bus route and £100,000 for a swimming uplift to the holiday fun club fund.
Around 3% of the council tax increase will cover a reduction in funding to the council from the Local Growth Fund and support social care services in the community via the Health and Social Partnership.
The additional £3 million spend (per year over the next two years) on the area’s roads infrastructure means a total of £8 million will be invested in this service area over the coming year – a 60% increase. This is part of the £61.3 million capital budget which funds long-term projects such as new roads, schools and buildings.
Major projects in a wide range of service areas will benefit from substantial investment in the capital programme, such as the completion of the new schools in Callander and Corbiewood, and the first phase of the new school build Durieshill, as well as the flood alleviation scheme in Bridge of Allan.
Other projects to be approved in the capital budget are: £200,000 for public toilets in Drymen and Dunblane, £175,000 for playparks, £25,000 for cemeteries infrastructure and £50,000 for additional mobile CCTV.
Borrowing will also fund the construction of new padel courts at the Peak sports facility (£1.3 million) and to support the transformation of children’s residential care (£1 million).
