Today in Rankin Chapel,Dr. Freddie Haynes reminded us in historic Rankin Chapel that justice is motivated by love… He reminded us through his remix to “stay woke and not fall for the okie-doke”. Social workers we must VOTE for victims of injustice. Our ancestors demand no less.
Howard is a special place. VP Kamala Harris joined us at Rankin Chapel Homecoming service this morning and extolled the leadership experiences gained as a student at Howard. So grateful for Howard leadership nationally and globally. So pleased to see social work students & alum!

Just finished watching HBOMax documentary Katrina Babies… very emotional. As social workers, we must more fully explore resilience- Who defines it is raised at end of documentary— when resilience becomes the intervention for failed policy it should be of tremendous concern.

So pleased to be at a book discussion with my colleague, Dean Yolanda Pierce as she discussed her new book “In My Grandmother’s House.” She shared how Black mothers and grandmothers have historically transferred lessons of protection and care to future generations. Great book!
It’s intense… at the NASW conference, Dr Janice Edwards and PhD candidate Angela Wilbon discuss critical race theory thru lens of clinical practice and the HU Black Perspective. They challenged us to take responsibility for ensuring that “otherness” is appropriately treated.
